I've been reading that Masame's costume was altered for the Japanese TV broadcast because it showed too much skin. However, the DVDs were uncensored. What I'm wondering is which version we'll get on the Funimation DVDs? I'm just curious since I know we have some Funi reps here who may be able to answer.

I'm not a FUNi rep but I can answer this one, since I saw the first five dubbed episodes at a 'con last month.

FUNimation's release has the completely uncensored artwork - and yes, it is amazingly racy even by the standards of the original American comic book. (Which is saying a lot.)

We had a FUNi rep answer this question in this thread. And Key is absolutely right about the getup she wears, or lack thereof. Wink

That's good to hear and yes I've seen pics. It is quite hot. Anime catgrin

The little bit I saw of the series before the C&D, the first 3 episodes, was the censored Japanese TV version so I'll be interested to see the change.

Huh, never even knew it was censored. I just figured it was intentionally toned down. Guess I'll have to check out the original version then Rolling Eyes

This I think is the uncensored version of what she looks like.

URLed to preserve fragile minds Wink

Okay I kid it's not too bad, but they recolored parts of the costume for the TV version. Then for the DVD releases colored it back to what it was supposed to be and touched up some of the animation issues it had too according to Wikipedia.

My main question is...shows like elfen lied are aired just how I saw it right? With the nudity and massive amounts of gore? What about Berserk? Or some other shows that show just frontal nudity sometimes?

It seems odd that part of a costume was changed because it showed too much skin even though it didn't actually show any real "nudity".

Was it the certain channel or time of day it aired maybe?

I too saw the premiere 4 episodes at a con. They were uncensored and at the Wicthblade panel they even talked a bit about how the Japanese did edit it up a bit for their tv viewing. As Key said yes it is amazingly racy but i don't think it's that much more then the comic series. I think Masane's "costume" if you will is more racy but in the comics often the Witchblade appeared in slightly different forms for Sara Pezzini. Most were racy but some more then others. The whole series had always been very....sexual...in it's art if that makes sense? Always a bit racy. The bearers were also, go figure, very sexy and sensual women.

However, Masane's "crotchblade" (as it's being nicknamed) is new and a bit more racy then the comics. She's also a bit more well endowed though not by much. The bearers have always also been gifted with large breasts. Again, go figure heh.

What would have been awesome is if Gonzo could have gotten more rights, such as for the Darkness so there could have been a new Darkness making an appearance as well. Oh well, maybe if there's a second season or movie at some point.....

I would assume they, like over here, have both broadcast cable which is subject to their regulation standards and subscription channels which can show movies and TV without edits.
