Well, that's interesting. I heard about the distribution thing, but I didn't think they would become partners.

This was my biggest concern, since there are many titles out now that are right in the middle of their runs. Otherwise this press release doesn't really add much:
I wish they could hint at what would be some of the changes. Also, it would be nice to hear if any portion of the former staff will be brought on board. |

Good lord - $2,679,705 billion - that is:
$2,679,705,000,000,000 Over 2.5 ZILLION dollars! Considering that the GNP of the planet was only $30 trillion in 2000, we have found the true rulers of Earth - Dentsu Inc. |

Bimonthly is the norm for DVD releases, ADV included. ADV and Funi do a few titles monthly, but most of them are bi-monthly. Or at least they were the last time I looked. Air is monthly, but is anything else getting released monthly? |

Ah, well then for some reason most of the titles i remember getting from ADV must of been monthly, just something i always assumed, i've been mainly sticking to bandai, geneon, and trsi titles of late. -G |

Talk about a merger. Now nothing can stop them.

It's not a merger, it's a distribution deal. In other words, it's not Namco Bandai, it's MGM and Fox. |

Even if the figure is supposed to be in yen, that's still about $23.2 trillion. Checking Dentsu's site (www.Dentsu.com), fiscal year 2003/2004 had stated consolidated net sales of ¥1,749,110 million (¥1,749,110,000,000 = $15,128,082,760.08 at the current rate; "Earnings Announcement Presentation Slides", page 6), and a goal of "Surpass 2 trillion yen in consolidated net sales (Fiscal year ending March 31, 2007)" (page 28). FY2006/07 had stated consolidated net sales of ¥2,093,976 million ("Financial Summary for FY2006 and Outlook for FY2007", page 2). |

So going back to the topic article of this thread, it seems like ADV and Geneon are both putting the spin on this "alliance" in a 100% positive light, right? I don't see any of the doom-and-gloom concerns that us forum users were talking about in this thread's predecessor, at least not in this new press release.
There's nothing in this press release stating that Geneon is going to be cutting its production staff and responsibilities in the foreseeable future. And there's nothing stating that the anime industry is in bad shape or recession, either. The article appears to me to have a 100% positive tone to it, supported by official statements from the CEOs of both ADV and Geneon USA. |

That's because it's a press release. They are by nature designed to spin everything in a very positive light, one that will not reflect badly on anyone. |

No arguments here. Just wondering what other people think. I guess it is something interesting for people to speculate about.

I wonder if this means that Best Buy's prices for Geneon DVDs will drop a bit. Every dollar counts
