Is there a Facebook application for ANN? Or is there one in the works perhaps? Are you guys living in the 21st century or what?
Flixter has their presence with movies, but there's nothing for anime ...

This is an unnecessary (and IMO unwelcome) comment. Not everyone uses or likes Facebook, and I bet the heat of SNS will die out in less than five years.

Facebook is a complete waste of time for anyone but a popularity-obsessed teen. But even if it weren't, I can't see why we'd bother with it. Our site does what it does quite well without involving all kinds of social networking on external sites.

Hmm. I was 10 in 1975.
Not the best of years to be 10 in. That was the year Margaret Thatcher became leader of the Conservative Party; the year the Vietnam War ended with the fall of Saigon; and the year Bill Gates came up with the name "Micro-soft" (trademarked the next year as "Microsoft").
On the other hand, it was also the year of the "Thrilla in Manilla"; the year Francisco Franco finally died; and the year Queen released A Night at the Opera.
Oh hey, and it was the year Jimmy Hoffa went missing....
Shoot, I'm feeling old again.

Thank you guys for making some of us feel young again. I feel so young and alive hehe.
On topic though what would be the difference between some facebook application and the expanded blog idea mentioned elsewhere here?

Well Facebook does seem to be beating other social networks around. This topic sort of reminds me of my suggestion of ANN having a MySpace profile, heh.
ANN isn't a site desperate to be found.

Well I feel the pain of everyone who is hating on the facebook. I myself stayed away for years because "only loser teenagers use social networking sites". The only reason I got an account on there was to show support for a politician. Then I found people that I hadn't spoken to in years on there, which is the reason I still use it. In any case, the anime segment of facebook is freaking tiny, with a total of 4 applications that are somehow related to anime, and none of them appeal to my "lust" of making lists and sharing them with people.
Feature wise, I would like to be able to access my friend's ANN anime and manga lists from facebook. For example, if a friend has the ANN application, I would want to see their and my anime list side-by-side. That way I can tell which shows we have in common and possibly find out about shows I'd never heard of before. There can also be a compability chart, showing a comparison of my friend's anime ratings and my own, to see how similar our tastes are. Of course, having ANN do a search on how many people rated anime X with a score of Y and showing me the Z closest people that chose to reveal that information to strangers would also rock. I'm just brainstorming here, everyone please tear these suggestions apart and makes new ones.

Well a facebook app should be a fairly quick and painless thing to implement as far as "work needed for this bs idea" is involved. Then you can see if any of the features of the app are being used more than others and make them for premium members only for example. I'd "totally hit it" ...

Well I was 16 in 1989, Q.E.D. 10 in 1983.
I must say that i do have a facebook account but only because it was the only way to keep in touch with a friend i knew from University, he does not seem to like using email and prefers to send messages via the facebook system. I make use of anime forums as a way to connect with others interested in anime and personally that is the way i prefer it. If something to do with ANN was set up there i would look at what was on offer but I am doubtful i would make use of any of the features.

Such a welcoming forum! Everyone is making me feel so young it's exciting.
Born in 1991, not old just yet folks. But in 20 years this simply will not be the case.
