First off, yay for Tiger and Bunny because that show is awesome. Second, how many copies of the dvd/blu-ray does a series need to sell to be considered a success?

There is a term known as the "Manabi Line" which if I remember is around 2900-3000 copies per volume. I imagine there was an interview or something of the staff of Manabi Straight and they either said it broke even or made a slight profit, cause all of us who study the sales trends of the industry use that term for a show breaking even or making a slight profit. However, that's probably for an average show. If there was serious money put into animation/art (say, like Nichijou) then I imagine that even though it sold above the Manabi Line is did not turn a profit.

Well, Shaft seriously knows how to make money, with two series making over 50k sells, this allows them to produce other works with high quality...

Didn't the last two seasons sell double those figures though?

First two seasons were DVD only I think. Although later they did release a BD box for them I believe.
Combining the DVD and BD sales the 3rd season sold pretty much even with the previous seasons' first week sales.

Over on the DVD rankings the Bleach movie is doing well but I don't see a BD version ranked - that seems odd. Was it offered in BD but at different time?

Nope, Bleach is DVD-only.
