I'd like to know what other titles of anime that uses MUSIC as its theme/genre, for example BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad and Nodame Cantabile.
Is there any other anime like those two? Well I'm not looking for the OP/EP of other anime. I'm looking for the music as its theme for the anime itself.. Thanks a lot! |

I started a similar thread just last week, but it's in the music section. You can check it out. Click here

it's not completely a music themed series but, Nana has a great deal to do with music. Especially the later into the series you get. I believe the real music part of the story doesn't pick up until around 12 episodes into the series, but that's ok because it was 47 episodes long.

Aquarian Age-Sign for Evolution and Bubblegum Crisis are heavily musically inclined. In both one of the main characters is in a band which you see perform on more than one occasion. Music really isn't the focus though the music they play is pretty good, there's other stuff that's going on.

Every Macross incarnation seems to have music at its core (with the exception of Macross Zero). When we look at the original, we have Lynn Minmay, the rising pop star who teaches the universe about love through her singing. In Macross II there's an alien "Emulator" who sings to enhance soldiers' combat skills (and who also teached the universe about love through her singing). In Macross 7, we have the fictional band "Fire Bomber," and the music license for the series ended up being unaffordable for all North American licensors as a result. And, of course, Macross Plus features the digital pop idol Sharon Apple, complete with an entire concert sequence. Her complicated relationship to Myung (also a singer), and her music (scored by Yoko Kanno in her first major anime soundtrack), is central to the story.
Also worth mentioning is Chance! Pop Sessions, which was produced by Avex specifically for the purpose of promoting Avex musicians. It's about a pop trio "rising to the top," as they say. Oh! And let's not forget Gauche the Cellist, a wonderful old Isao Takahata film based on a Kenji Miyazawa novel. It's about a cellist in a local orchestra who improves his skill through the help of animals who come to visit. The central musical theme is Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 (Pastoral Symphony). |
