Making a video review of your most love/hated anime just seems like a rather natural way to review a motion picture medium and yet I can't recall much discussion about such reviews outside of that Anime TV thread. Certainly someone among us is up to such a thing? Personally I think it would be a little more entertaining than just reading about it and it could give you more information about the title in less time if done well. But, so far I'm not terribly impressed with what Anime TV has done and I'm wondering who else, if anyone, is into this.

I'm not into video reviews. The concept of watching someone give their opinion of an anime does nothing for me. Perhaps if the reviewer was extremely charismatic or had a style I liked I might enjoy it, but I'll believe it when it happens. Right now I prefer to read reviews instead of watch them.

I think Anime TV's biggest problem is the shows they review. How about they bring out a new and exciting anime instead of something that has been airing on CN for the last few years.

Heh, I wouldn't get much out of just watching somebody's head while they give their spiel about their opinion on whatever anime; I'm referring to a video review that uses actual clips to cover the primary cast and really hit home on the reviews main points. See what I mean? A bunch of talking heads won't improve anime reviews, but actual footage combined with a witty and charismatic voice-over might be a lot of fun and rather informative to boot. I'm not sure I'm the right kind of guy for the job but I might give it a shot at some point. Unless I'm mistaken it's still okay to use copyrighted footage for the purpose of a proper review, and if it's not, well screw 'em I might just have to make one anyway.

I think anime video reviews are a good idea, if they're done right. That way you could get a good idea of what your buying without downloading episodes. Written reviews are fine, but you can't tell what a show's gonna look like just by reading. An example of decent video reviews would be those at gamespot.com, and a crappy video review would be anything by X-play on G4 (that show tries so hard to be funny, but it's just annoying).

Ever heard anyone make a review of anything via YouTube? It's friggin' annoying. Text can be bothersome enough. Then to actually hear voice and see face. Blah!
Another thing. No one should listen to Professional -- let along amateur or n00b -- critics.

I wouldn't make a good reviewer as most of the time when I'm asked about a series or movie I like to give nice short and concise statements. I think more in term of how much said series entertained me rather than deconstructing it's good and bad elements, unless of couse they were glaringly obvious.
Also I've found the more one does that, the more critical they become and the less they are entertained thus they begin to be disenchanted and hate everything they try to watch because they're always comparing it to something else. Am I even making any sense? If not, sorry, It's late and I'm tired.

And to think that they were funny a good ol' 4 years ago. TechTV had better writers for the show, G4 shot it down. But I still love Adam and Morgan.

Yeah, clips paired with a great reviewer would be fun. I was picturing some public access style show where an opinionated otaku lets us know why Gunbuster is so great while he sits at his computer in his parent's basement.

Me too. I still think they're pretty funny half the time. Except the musical... that was just bad.

I loved the Musical! Well the first part anyway, with the paper boy. But by the time I hit the X-play game AI baby I got a little tired of it.
Adam and Morgan are actually funnier by themselves without the writing to throw them off, they should stick to that. Expecially when they answered my Video Viewer mail and they voiced over what they actually said with something else, I still don't know what they said and it bugs me.
But I should stop going off-topic here.

I prefer reading reviews. A bunch of otaku rambling on about how Naruto has the best first episode of any anime or how Dragonball Z is "kickass" is totally pointless. Take AnimeTV for example. A bunch of overly obsessed fanboys (and girls) talk about and attempt to review anime that's been out for 10 years and airs on CN all the time or has been on DVD for just as long. They never bash it; they always say how every anime fan should watch it, and then they go on and on about how great the dub is because they were paid off by a professional studio. Then they show a list of the top 10 anime, but of course these are all popular shonen series that should've stopped airing long ago (DBZ, Naruto, One Piece, Pokemon, etc.) No thanks. If I want a review of anime, I'll come here or go to AnimeOnDVD.

I'm not good at reviews. The only time I think I really wrote a review on anime was School Rumble...and that was really fun to write..but usually, I don't like to write anime reviews because then I have to verbalize my thoughts. Usually that ends up in me finding little things and things to criticize that ruin the fun of watching it

I remember back when it was still Gamespot TV, back when they reviewed the Oracle of Time haha. I don't mind Adam and Morgan though, but yeah, the shows way too heavily scripted, to the point where it's almost painful to watch them regurgitate the same lame jokes over and over.

Why would I want to watch some MTV VJ reject tell me about an anime (clips or no), when I can watch the actual anime instead and form my own opinions?
I don't mind written reviews, simply because I can get through them faster. Normally, if I'm actually looking at a review, it's becuase a) I found an amazing price on a show I know very little about and need to figure out NOW if I should buy it, or b) I'm very bored and clicking through the review links at random, to see if a show pops out at me as something to look more seriously into buying. Considering I've got nearly 100 DVDs unwatched right now, that's not been happening lately.

Hey, quit trying to crush my fragile little spirit.
Actually the more people bash on the idea the more I keep thinking "I can prove it will be fun!" but, I'm probably wrong about that. I just really got a kick out of a couple clips I saw with people reviewing video games on youtube and thought it might be fun to do the same thing with anime. But, I also understand why so many people would be against it; most clips on youtube suck. Bad. Really bad. So maybe it's not such a good idea but I should probably give it a shot anyway. Everyone will have a chance to bash the hell out of me if and when I post it and then it will be all be over. Now, wont that be nice?

The only people who would bash you are those who don't have the courage, talent, or ability to do it themselves. You should definitely give it a try and ignore those who are simply jealous. YouTube has a great anime community and it would be awesome to see a really nice review with clips go up on there.
