If the guy who did this turns out to be a demented Otaku, it could prove very uncomfortable for the rest of us, again.

Why would he be an otaku?
She was cute though.

George Fisher was the vocalist for Cannibal Corpse.

Our gutter press is already saying "he had hentai manga in his appartment" this was not mentioned in the BBC report. Why wouldn't he be? There is another updated report that has a picture of the guy. He looks like the freaky stalker in "Perfect Blue" Not that that matters, It's just an observation on my part.

Why is that what we're caring about? That it could be uncomfortable for us, OH NOES.

I'd be more concerned for all the people who go to Japan after university to teach English, since it's very common. And of course, more focused on the guy getting caught than any selfish desire to not be MISUNDERSTOOD!!!!1!!!

I don't see how this could affect anybody. I had some witty comments but they wouldn't make much sense. I will of course say that it sounds like you think his manga has something to do wit it.

Further what are the chances of every murderer being an otaku?

Absurdity, don't preempt your own abuse...

My dear I apologise if you found my post somehow upsetting. That wasn't my intention I assure you. Of course her tragic death is an important matter, as any tragic death is no matter where it happens, especially for her friends and family, and my heart felt condolances goes out to them most sincerely. However what I'm trying to highlight is that the ripples from this tragedy has the potential to grow into a tsunami of repulsion against anyone interested in the same thing he was in any way, if he was an otaku. That will include you too. If being stigmatised for liking anime and manga does not bother you, good on ya. However we all will get tarred with the same brush by those who know nothing about our interests, and I don't want to go through all that again as we did in the UK. I'm only highlighting that this could have repercusions for all of us. Be prepared for the snide remarks if this story gets an airing in your country.

Gee, I thought tons of people in Japan read manga. Rolling Eyes I mean, you can find hentai manga at your local 7-11 and not even shrink-wrapped for god's sake. It's not like hentai manga is some uncommon phenomena in Japan. It's no different than live-action porn over here. And if people really wanted to criticize you for your interest in anime, they're going to do it regardless of this case. if you're so worried about people thinking you're a rapist murderer because you like cartoons and comics, maybe you should get a new hobby. I swear anime fans must be the most self-conscious people in the world.

Not trying to go off topic but are you not an anime fan or are you a caual fan?

Back on topic, what if he had a lot of movies with Jim Carey? I guess Jim Carey fans would be frowned upon and looked at like mureders? Nah, I don't think so.

Way to go Mohawk, way to fearmonger. Seriously, we don't even know if he is an otaku yet, and simply having some hentai and/or doujinshi in his apartment hardly means anything for a young male in Japan. Why bring it up if the media hasn't made any incorrect and ignorant accusations yet? For that matter, why should we even recognize stuff like that as a problem? You're not helping anything or anyone posting here about stuff like this. If it were to turn into a problem, then it may be appropriate to talk about the situation, but neither I nor anyone else sees anything that indicates this is a problem beyond a homicide case.

I think that the original topic post was trying to say that almost 100% of the time a demented psychopath killer is found, the police and "profesionals" think that there has got to be something that made or provoked them to do. Just like when they pin deaths and violent acts on video games. They seem to overlook sometimes that the person just has a troubled mind from things like personal interaction from their parents, friends, etc. . .

I dont see there being anyway to pin Hentai on a death like that. Hentai is porn, and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it is probably found in more rooms than just his in Japan. So its not like its out of the ordinary. Even if they did associate that with the death it wouldnt effect any of us anime fans since anime is not hentai.

Much like trying to find lolicon material when you arrest a child rapist/murderer. I think that it is sad though, she looked like she had so much going for her, and then has life taken from her at such a young age. What this is going to do is cause people to question whether it is safe to go to Japan to teach English, when somebody just went over there and a couple of months later she's dead. I bet he tried to have his way with her, or something snapped, she resisted, he killed her. There's no way to prove whether he was an otaku or not because these kinds of cases happen all the time. Usually the people committing these acts are unemployed, but that doesn't mean they're otaku.

Guys, you're all making the assumption that he's guilty. Even in Japan, where being arrested usually means being convicted (!), they still pay lip service to the idea that a man is innocent until found guilty. So should we.
