Yeah we pretty much figured that out. Hey, it could even be airing in September since the first series ended then. Cause we would DEFINATLEY have info if it was Spring/Summer.

Well this kinda sucks because I was hoping for a quick release. I am going to buy this. But I would rather a good job be done anyway. A normal pattern does not bother me. And if they dub, I hope they pick some good actors.
However, it does seem odd ANN would make this mistake. Since 10 whole clues where given. You would think the time of release would have been known. I'll just chalk it up to good ol' typo err. |

The errata was about Higurashi no Naku Koro ni 2. Higurashi 2 is a whole new anime that will be airing in Japan sometime this year (my bet's on the fall, though summer isn't out of the question) which is irrelevant to Geneon's release of Higurashi 1 which I don't think has been given any sort of release time frame yet. |

Heh...when they cry more! :p ... Methinks Higgy is due for a July~August release, provided Minagoroshi-hen really is the only arc animated. We could be in for surprises; the unpubished PS2 arcs could be included as well, notably that "true end" Ryukishi07 told us about. |

*Shakes fist angrily* You had my hopes up.
Good news though. Through watching a clip of the PS2 game, It is a proven fact that spoiler[Hanyuu] will indeed be voiced by Yui Horie. From Uguu~ to AuAuAuAuuuu! I'm extatic about that for sure. |

Jeez I'd never even heard of the game before. I didn't know it was so popular, is it sold in normal gaming stores? How could it be a game, what's the purpose of it?

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is based off of a PC game (which was more just like a novel set against music, sound effects and pictures).

Ah, I see, it is easy to make that mistake. And embarrassing, so I must complement ANN. For reporting errors, something most major news networks don't do, ever. That fact alone makes me respect this site ten-fold. |

Higurashi is based off of a Doujin (fan-made) PC game. The game sold so surprisingly well that they made CD Dramas, Manga, and finally the anime. I believe Higurashi is the ONLY Doujin PC game that has both an anime and a console port. Tsukihime is also getting a PS2 port though, so Higurashi will then be one of two. The PS2 port was actually on the list of top 10 most wanted games in a recent issue of Famitsu. I wish someone would take the leap with Higurashi but it is unlikely to say the least. Oh well, I'm still buying the PS2 version anyways (even though the ultra-nice limited edition sold out in the first week ). It's not really a game per say, as the PC games have all of two choices during the entire series. It's essentially just reading the story set to music. Therefore many fans were disapointed with the soundtrack choices for the anime (The song "You" is a particularily awesome piano piece). The PS2 game has since added CGs and a few choices in the beginning which determine which chapter you will enter, then it's the same as before. Keep in mind that even though there were no choices, it still sold extraordinarily well. For a game in a similar vein of story telling (though a completely different mood), I reccomend you download Narcissu. You can get it here: http://narcissu.insani.org/ NOTE TO MODS: Narcissu was fan-created but did gain approval and permission from the ORIGINAL creator to freely distribute it, so it's fair game. There's no reason to remove the link at all.

Well, Moon Phase is your best friend in these situations (if you can understand Japanese).

"Visual novel" would be the most accurate term since there ARE illustrations in the 'game' and is the term usually used for these types of 'games' (though many, like F/SN, involve at least a little bit of interactivity in that you at least make some choices).

Well, the pain for the R1 Dvd release is only surpassed by the one for the second season start, or so it seems. I thought I could help it by maybe buying the PlayStation 2 game, but over 100$ (because if I do buy it, it will be the limited edition, nothing less) for something I won't understand (although I can probably figure what happens due to my experience with the anime and manga) is kinda off-putting.
Completely different mood should be underlined. Thanks for showing me what's really a visual novel but this thing is just too gloomy and depressing for my taste and current humor. I might finish it during summer (I really don't need yet another depressant during the school period). Last edited by Drowning_Wolf on Wed Mar 07, 2007 10:17 pm; edited 1 time in total |
