ANIME!

I've heard a lot of people complaining about these ruining the beauty of anime...
Do you agree with them (assuming that most of you are otakus)?

Personally, I enjoy most of it, since most of them are incredibly funny, often mindless, but somewhat still entertaining.

I've also heards rumors that some spoofs actually came from buying the english dubbed DVD.

Like the company that licensed GTO...

However someone contradicted and just said that some idiot just messed up with the videos...

What do you think?

Are you anti or pro to this abridged anime series?

Ruining the beauty of anime? Isn't the only anime which is having its "beauty" being ruined, Yu-Gi-Oh?

Personally I hate Yu-Gi-Oh, but I love Abridged. For those who're ignorant about the series, click here.

Occasionally, some of the anime studios do outtakes to put in the extras section of their DVD's. Berserk in particular has some hysterical outtakes.

However, speaking specifically of GTO, the series was not edited nor abridged when released onto Tokyopop DVD's (though the dub was considered middle-of-the-road).

Isn't the closest thing to an 'Offical' gag dub the one for Ghost Stories? That's the only series I know where the liscensor intentionally re-wrote the script for comedy's sake.

ADV has done a number of scripted outtakes as extras (see Abenobashi and Madlax among others) and Geneon has done it on at least one occassion (Texhnolyze), probably more. But I think Ghost Stories is the only time the actual dub has been re-written to such an extent.

Assuming that I'm an otaku I'll say no. Truthfully, your post didn't make a lot of sense to me. If you're asking whether I like dubs that are heavily edited/changed/abridged (4Kids) then my answer is no. But it doesn't ruin the 'beauty' of anime for me. If you're asking about outtakes; I like them and find them hilarious. And if you're asking whether I like dubs that are 'spoofed', I can't say because I don't what you mean.

In regards to dubs that lose some meaning, not so much. As for dubs created for humor, I've watched a few and enjoy them. Although, personally my favorites are when clips from a show are used with a routine from a standup comedian (Search for 'AMV Comedians' on YouTube to find some hilarious stuff using comics like Dave Chapelle and Pablo Francisco to Naruto).

Have you guys seen the character intros on Rurouni Kenshin - Volume 14? Now those are funny. Especially the one about "Rurouni Shishio."

And this doesn't really count, but Richard Epcar presented some hilarious (mostly X-rated) scripted Lupin outtakes at Anime Boston '06.
