This story is amusing and cute. However it doesn't seem to be over here yet, so you'll only get it in Japanese. Anyways spoiler[Naka is a 14 year old striving to become a magazine model, but it seems she just can't get any jobs with her face that looks like somebody's wanted poster. She wants to be just like Umi, who is a model for "Junk" brand and has a killer smile. Until she finds out something about Umi, that she is actually a "he" posing as a girl model because he can pass for it. So Umi gets Naka into Junk in exchange for keeping his secret. The two try to audition for other jobs, passing here, failing there (mostly Naka for her face), until a 17 year old photographer named Tsutsumi is able to bring out the real face of Naka with his talking about things, including Umi. As the story progresses, we soon find out though that the relationship between Umi and Naka may be taking a deeper turn than they expected. But Umi isn't the only one who seems to be harboring feelings towards Naka as well. Photo shoots here and there, school, and going to a new agency or not, brings all sorts of obstacles between Naka and Umi,] and the progression of the story makes you want to turn the page quicker to see what's going to happen next. I think that this is a good series to try and check out, it's got it's moments, and I don't think you will be disappointed either.

Yes, it doesn't seem to have been released by Tokyopop late last year. I wrote a review of this but it's not up yet. |

Ha! Yeah, I was intrigued by the artwork on the covers of this when I saw it in Previews, but I completely forgot to keep an eye out for it. Sounds pretty good, actually. Hey fighterholic, what are some series you might compare it to in terms of tone/execution, that sort of thing? |

This has been one I've been thinking of trying. It seems to get mixed reviews, but you made it sound like it's worth a look. Thanks for the good summary too. A lot more informative (and interesting) then the one on the Tokyopop website. |

The timing of my posting this thread when I did and then you posting your review after my thread got started is pure coincidence. I put more time into the forums than I do the encyclopedia. But thanks for the tip, later is better than never. But seriously, I posted this thread about 3:30 pm California time, and then I get on at ten thirty at night and your review is up there. And WHY a C-?? |

Did you read the review? He makes it pretty clear why he thought it was mediocre. |

You must have not read this part:
How the hell was I supposed that it's over in Taiwan? Ad yes I read the review, and in my mind I think it deserves a little more credit, but that's not why I started this thread, to turn it into a flame war. I started this thread with the intent of trying to let people know about this series and how good it is. The timing of my posting it and Patachu's review coming up was purely coincidental, like I stated already. |

Oh, you can be sure that I have noticed it. Next time you get a traffic violation ticket e.g. speeding, be sure to tell the police officer that you must concentrate at other cars on the road and can't be distracted by speed limit signs.
I like its promising beginning too, but after reading through volume 1-6 I must say Umi's unwillingness to express his true feeling to Naka (a very common trait of male protagonists in shoujo manga, trying to "keep cool;" personally I find it disgusting) has lasted way too long and starts to turn old, especially that spoiler[he kissed her then regretted doing so.] A good story plays "tsun" and "dere" alternatively, not keeping a character at "tsun" state for too long, particularly in a romantic series. |

This is one title that I really felt would have been better translated. Granted, I may just be used to the title "Charming Junkie," but I think it has a nice ring to it.

To dormcat and Patachu: I went back and read the review first, and then I went back and read the first volume, but the one I read was the Japanese version. you can find my thoughts of the review here. I apologize for my behaviour concerning this series, but like I said, it will take a better turn with later volumes.
