yeah, they killed it. shur i still have anime on demand with one or 2 new GOOD episodes per month and adult swim, but how many times can i watch FMA or inuyasha? now that comcast has fully taken over adelphia they tell us its all sun and no rain, they tell us weve got all new channels(ex. channels have new numbers and NEW channels) BUT they take the one channel i want, colors. (the one with the 6 hour block i beleave). i ended up calling them about some down time, and i decide to ask about the channel, i couldnt beleave it when they told me they removed it, "it wasnt in comcasts pack of new channels" they added the comment "it must not havebeen vary popular". yeah right, i get 3 hundred sports channels, 50 news channels several hundred more movie channels, and now only 1! anime channel that really isnt that good? THIS SUCKS!
so at this point in time i have to say im done with tv, i only watch it for either the history channel, some of those real life er shows and now adult swim. and besides, i can download whatever i want from the internet with subtitles so i dont have to listen to the crappy english voice actors and i can read the subtites. not to mention what a joke it is haveing to spend $30 per dvd, seriously, who can afford to watch anime that way?
ps (even if i see the english version first i still prefer the japanese with subtitles)

Plenty of people, otherwise there wouldn't be an anime industry, at least not to the extent that it exists today. Besides, $30 is only the "suggested" retail price -- you're not shopping effectively if you're paying $30 per DVD, as Best Buy and various online stores offer them for prices like $25, $20, $15, or even less sometimes. I'm coining a new acronym: SRP = "Sucka's Retail Price." Of course, there are those who will equate buying DVDs cheaply online with "cheating the industry," but oh well, they're welcome to pay $30 if they want
EDIT: Note, posts in this thread with no content other than "mmm, pizza" or "your typing sucks" have been removed.

Yeah, those crappy English VA's who are so crappy that they can keep an english dub company continuously making english dubs for over a decade. Those crappy english VA's that are sometimes critically acclaimed to surpass the original Japanese seiyuu.

I can, I don't work fast food OK, seriously though, like Zalis said, you're not shopping effectively if you're paying $30 a volume. Best Buy RARELY sells a single volume for over $25, execptions being vol 1 w/artbox or certain movie animes. And this is not mentioning other places on Amazon that would have it for even cheaper.

I guess it's time to weep for all the folks who can no longer receive some obscure syndicated anime block on some borderline network that almost nobody outside of anime fandom has ever watched or probably ever heard of.

You can buy a legitimate anime DVD for about the same cost as a tasteless and highly caloric "Papa Johns" pizza. If you can manage to get a decent job at or above the GDP per capita average you could probably afford more anime than you could actually watch. Just look at some of the collections people here have. If you think they're all millionaires, guess again.

Oh please, you should be happy that you get that much to begin with. Spare a thought for people in other countries where the only reasonable and legitimate option is to buy DVDs at a higher price and much later release date.
As for subtitles... since when could you not get Japanese audio with English subtitles on the DVDs?

Yeah, what he said. You don't like dubs and can't afford DVDs? Too bad. Get a new hobby, then.

That is one of the funniest acronyms that I've heard in a long time.
If you look at the "How much money" thread you will find that many of us working folk easily spend around 3-5k on anime in a year. I'd like to think that this is not at MSRP. About 3/4 of my DVDs are pre-orders from TRSI which makes them 35% off with membership discount. the other 1/4 (or close to) is spent on specially priced bargain or sale items which is cheaper than 35% off.

Comcast is not that bad compare to paying for anime DVDs but my only gripe with Comcast is why have not they got rid of G4 because its not about videogames anymore and its now just a Spike TV clone.

I'm a high school sophmore who gets minimal allowance, yet I've managed to build up a decent DVD collection and still have plenty of money left over. It's not that hard. Just earn some money and get discounted products or box sets. And the DVD's have Japanese audio with English subtitles, subbed by professionals, not fansubbers who make up translations when they feel lazy.
Also, anime on demand should be more than enough anime for you. That's MUCH more than what most U.S. citizens have acess to.(legally, anyway)

Mmmm... Pizza.
Oh I guess I better say more....
Yeah, I've been after my local comcast for a while now to pick up Tan 24/7 or colors. Needless to say, they'd much rather give us another clone channel to not watch than something different.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Comcast Video on Demand. Anime Network shows... you'll get a new episode of what few series they carry about once a month. There's also anime selects, which has fewer series, but at least they update most of them once a week.
Unless of course the update day falls on a holiday... then you MIGHT get a double update the next week, or they'll just skip those episodes altogether. Oh well, like they care.
G4TechTV... Ah took a good station about video games, a great station about tech, mix them together, cut all the Gaming and Tech shows, and fill it with more $*#@! that you can see on five other channels.
I better go kick the #*@$ out of my cable box now, I'm all depressed.

I'm not going to get into your whole, "dubs suczors OMG japanyese lanugage FTW!" argument here. If you like to watch anime in Japanese with English subtitles that’s fine, but you don't need to be an ass about it. You do know that R1 DVDs have Japanese with English subs on them, right?
If you pay $30.00 per DVD then you fail, period. I have a little less than 900 anime DVDs at this point, with an average cost of around $8.75 per or about 70% less than MSRP. I don’t have much of a problem with fansubs, but I do when people use them as a way to watch anime for free that has been released in the states. If 8.75 per DVD is too expensive, I feel sorry for you.

I like watching DVDs because of all of the extras that you can't get with fansubs. Lately I get a lot of my DVDs by borrowing and renting (and I lend out DVDs to friends too so it's a two-way benefit). Here are some tips to maximize your anime viewing time and minimize your spending.
Online DVD rental outfits like rent anime, blockbuster, greencine, and that other one that needs no mentioning.
Borrow from friends (but it's nice to lend out DVDs too).
Attend anime clubs and conventions that show DVDs.
Watch your anime twice - subbed then dubbed. Even if you don't like dubs sometimes there's things you miss when just watching subtitled versions or sometimes it's fun just to compare voices.
ps: I've never considered getting my anime from broadcast or cable TV since I'd rather just avoid all the other junk on TV. So sell your TV (unless you need it to watch DVDs), ditch your cable company and use all the money you save to buy more DVDs
I'm hungry for pizza

It's really, really, REALLY easy to get anime DVDs for cheap if you just know where to look. I just ordered the entire set of Cromartie High DVDs (four DVDs) for $35--that's INCLUDING shipping. That's right, four DVDs for the price of one, basically.
Now, sometimes I like to pay closer to full price for series I really like (since often that means I'm buying them close to the retail date, which is supporting the series more), but since I'm unemployeed right now I can't really DO that...but, there's still Right Stuf's bargin bin.

for those that arnt in that group thank you for replying. for reason such as these i havnt logged in for months, and now i doubt ill be back for a long time since i have found a forum where they ban "children" on sight and dont have to deal with these garbage replys.
i just hope the admins are happy keeping the "children" who post garbage replys and have to be censored all the time rather then keep people who are nice and dont do such things. good luck and goodbye.
