JManga: Hear It Straight from Japan!
11 a.m.-12 p.m. Room 25ABC
Reps from Japan's biggest publishers— Kodansha, Shueisha, Shogakukan, Futabasha, and Kadokawa, all members of the Digital Comics Association in Japan —will be on-hand to present JManga, their joint endeavor to release manga in the U.S. digitally, legally.

Please cover this. I've been eagerly waiting for something like this for a while now.

Excuse me while I go cry more about how I'm not going to be there.

I wonder if there will be any announcements from the publishers regarding any of the Tokyopop titles that are now up for grabs?

The Supernatural anime was unusual in that they released the dub track in Japan alongside the original release, so it has been floating around.

Oh, I'll definitely watch out for that type of news! I think there's a very high chance that Maid Sama will be picked up. It'll be a shame to let that fun sexy manga not be published anymore! D8

Stan Lee, I think he's become bored with the Western style of art. Might explain why he's been involved in anime and manga so often now.

Futurama as an anime? Blech. I know it's only a "what if" thing, but may that idea never get green-lit.

Yes, I know this has nothing to do with Japanese anime or manga, but I'm looking forward to the info from this panel the most:

Quote:

Nickelodeon: The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra: Exclusive First Look— Creator team Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, co-executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos, supervising producer Ki-Hyun Ryu, and composing team Ben Wynn and Jeremy Zuckerman give an exclusive sneak peek at the continuation of this element-bending saga. Moderated by Megan Casey, executive in charge for Nickelodeon. Room 6BCF

Other Avatar: The Last Airbender related panels:

Dan Licht and Sara Colleton (Dexter), Jeremy Zuckerman, Benjamin Wynn, and Bryan Konietzko, Michael Dante DiMartino (Avatar the Last Airbender), and Noah Sorota and Mark Verheiden (Falling Skies) discuss their working relationship, how music plays a character in their stories, and the intense process of scoring their projects. Graham (Avatar the Last Airbender). Come for the conversation and stay for the cosplay contest. Santa Rosa Room, Marriott Marquis & Marina

Sunday, July 24
10:00-11:00 Diversity and Fandom 102: How You Can Make a Difference— In the wake of campaigns like Racebending.com's protests and the rise of safe spaces like Racialicious.com, fans, consumers and creators from underrepresented groups have more outlets for speaking up. This panel explores how those voices can be added to conversations with geeky business interests and fan communities. Actor Dante Basco (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Hook), showrunner/writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach (The Middleman), author Malinda Lo (Huntress), Arturo Garcia (Racialicious.com), Phil Yu (AngryAsianMan.com) and USC Professor Henry Jenkins (CivicPaths Project) promise a lively discussion, moderated by Racebending.com. Room 24ABC

The Character of Music panel looks really interesting.

Seconding all the hopes of Tokyopop license rescues. I'm downright confident Hetalia will be "saved", though I'm hoping it's now rather then later.

There are other series that have less positive chances that I'm still hopeful for.

Also, I agree with the "Y: the Last Man" fan, I'm eagerly looking forward to Legend of Korra.

There's already footage of the parody skit....
But yeah, Futurama works best just the way it is, and Bender wouldn't be as cool. Laughing

Anyways, since Inuyasha: Final Act is in the schedule, let's see how fast Viz could release it.

Hey, you got the origin of my screen name! I think you're the first person who got it here! Razz

I really hope someone picks up Tokyopop's better latter titles, especially Hetalia. Not because I'm an Hetalia fan; but because it's an unique manga with a huge fanbase, and it would be a shame not to capitalize it legally in the U. S.

I'm still trying to figure out where I can get the best Korra coverage. Comic-con is huge and I'm only interested in a few small parts of it. I know I can find all the reliable news on manga and anime announcements here, but I dread trying to figure out the latest legit A:TLA/Korra news via google or even twitter. (Know any reporters who'll be live-blogging those panels?)

Definitely looking forward to this. Especially for any news on any Tokyopop rescues (Hetalia, Alice in the Country of Hearts, Butterfly, and Chibisan Date pretty please?) and see if Viz will officially announce an announcement for Akuma to Love Song. Ever since I heard about the hint of it getting licensed, I've been so antsy. Anime hyper

I was a comic book fan before I got into manga, have the entire series in the graphic novels on my bookshelf.

Hetalia will be picked up, both of it's 2 volume rocketed to the New York Times best seller list, the anime is a huge seller. It's new and different enough and has a very bizarre demographic, from middle-aged history fans to teenage girls to the stupid comedy fans. It's a something that just hasn't quite happened in Anime culture before, and I think people realize it's great success over here and in Japan. Granted it might take some time for it to be rescued due to potential mess from Tokyopop closing down.

Don't know any live bloggers off the top of my head. I know a lot of adults love the series in particular, but not where American Animation fans would conjugate. I don't think there are any blogs for that like there are for comic news. Hmm... ComicsAlliance might be a place to start, they like being general geek stuff, and they have a Captain Planet Cartoon Network announcement on their front page.
