Why is DBZ liked so much? I watched the whole series and thought it was good before everyone became SSJ but it got stale. Especially, since CN has had great shows like Outlaw Star and Rurouni Kenshin, yet they can't reach most DBZ fans. What is it that appeals to casual fans?

It's true, it's true but the same can be said for Cowboy Bebop. Not many people watch it on AS when I know people around here stay up that late. Most of the episodes, you don't have to understand the story to enjoy the great action sequences. The story adds to the drama and emotion of the sequences but they are good on their own.

DBZ is so appealing because of it's interesting characters and cool techniques/and on occation weapons. When I was eight and first saw DB, I thought child Goku's power pole was the coolest thing ever, and you didn't even want to get me started on the Flying Nimbus. Also some people may find relation in the plot to their own life. Like Chi Chi the overbearing, controling, overprotective, homework mongor. I think anyone can relate to that.

After recently selling my entire DBZ DVD lot of 64 DVD's on ebay, I can tell you why. DBZ was my first anime. DBZ is many people's first anime. Usually (like me) they go on to think its the best anime ever created (SO far from the truth) Some people obsess over it so much they buy all the Irwin and IF Labs figures (like me) and some people even get tattoos ( one of my good friends, however I think thats a bit silly)

Anyway, it was a good 7 or 8 years ago when I first saw DBZ on channel 9 on Sunday mornings, when Pioneer was doing it. (terribly at that) Anyways, I forgot all about it, but about 5 years ago I rediscovered it. Shortly thereafter Funimation started to do it. At that point I thought all Subtitled anime sucked. (boy was I wrong)

It does have SEMI-interesting characters, huge battles (that last FOREVER) Which is very appealing to someone beginning anime. THe villains are pretty cool at first, until every single one of them turns out to be the same thing. Hero or villian transforms and a character says "I've never seen such Power!") Or something to that effect.

I really cant stand DBZ at all anymore. Dragonball itself however is a different story. This is when Toriyama actually cared about his work, and it shows. I do continue to buy DB, but have given up with DBZ with the exception for a couple of the movies. My friend however still loves DBZ to this day (I kinda regret getting him into it. He also LOVES DBGT) Please dont get me started. THat show makes me want to vomit.

I have discovered bigger and better animes, (almost everything has a better plot than DBZ) but I digress. Oh well. Sorry if this didn't help much, more of a rant on my part, lol

My first anime was Sailor Moon... I loved that show, and it got me into anime..... When I first saw DBZ I thought it was stale from the get go.... But then after seeing three episodes in a row (or about 5 minutes in plot development) I started to get into it... I prefer the early Dragon Ball to DBZ any day.... I like Funimation's old dub and I even have the Live action Dragon Ball movie (good for a laugh), as well as Mystic Quest (good if you get the slump refrences.... Bad if you like dubs)

I like DB and like I said I watched all of DBZ and I myself don't know why I watched it to the end. After the Frieza saga it got boring but something made me keep watching . Maybe I was trying to force myself not to like it but I don't find but the first two sagas worth watching. I'm so confused. I wish CN would put Outlaw Star back on Toonami.

I love DBZ. it's over on Cartoon network when DBGT comes, but I still like it. I can tell you why I like the show. In addition to being my first anime (first things are always cool) the action is cool. I've seen other action and I like other action in shows, but it doesn't seem to compare. I know the plot is endless and ongoing, but if you want more plot there is other anime. Mabe DBZ isn't the best anime, but I think it definitley has the best action.
Outlaw Star and Rurouni Kenshin... I like them too.

I'm starting to think a lot of people like it because it was their first anime. It was one of my first but I don't associate it as the show that got me hooked. That honor belongs to Ronin Warriors. C'mon, you know those armor up sequences beat those silly power rangers and their morphers anyday. Cool

Why do people blame Pioneer for Seasons 1 and 2? It was Saban's fault for censoring, not Pioneer.

So is the popular reason because it was what introduced everyone to anime?

no, some people said it was the first anime they've seen, but thats not why it's liked. as jetblack said earlier, "It's "cool".". It appeals to the kids, and the teenagers etc
which make up a bulk of CNs ratings etc.

I've wanted to post this two days ago, but was too busy to. Now I've nothing better to do.

Why is Dragonball/Dragonball Z so Popular? - 3 pages with plenty of established perspectives, not updated since June.

I love dbz for the same reasons as many other fans...it's one of my favorite! but, I really love it because i think that vegeta and piccolo are sooooo hot! (animes are always a little better when the characters are attractive)[/u]
