A while back I came across a website with this article/letter: http://www.jazzmess.com/misc/dl.html[/url]
I've read that David uses the name Steve Blum for union projects. While using his real name (David, of course) for non-union projects. ANN's encyclopedia even states this, though they use the name Steven Blum. That acticle/letter (apparently from David) contradicts what is written in the Encyclopedia. (With the letter stating they are two different people.) My question is this, What is true? This question is directed more towards the Moderators, but if any one can shed more light on the subject I would appreciate it. By the way, I hope no one at ANN thinks I'm bashing on the Encyclopedia, I'm just trying to find answers. Thanks |

Well... as far as my opinion on the matter goes, I think it's overwhelmingly positive based on certain evidence and unusual coincidences that the two are one and the same. This does cause me some concern, though, as David Lucas (since he sent the letter to Jazz Messengers.) clearly doesn't want his name to be connected to Steve Blum. There are supposedly some dangerous consequences of being found under an alias in non-union work, though I am quite surprised that I have heard of no incident so far regarding LA anime non-union dubs. I certainly can't say I disagree on them being the same person, but it is up to the encylopedia staff if they want to have the names connected or just leave them apart to honor David Lucas's wishes in his letter to Jazz Messengers.

I think this underscores a deeper and more serious question: how should we deal with union vs. non-union credits? As an Encyclopedia, we should have the most accurate information and therefore we should link roles to the correct voice actor, regardless of pseudonym. But is it damageable to that individual's career? How strict is the union *really* on these matters? Somehow, I don't get the feeling that the S.A.G. is actively trying to find and punish "delinquent" actors.

Interesting given the recent news item.
ANN has in the past split up certain pseudonyms from their true names, by request of the person, but we won't do it if its common knowledge. At this point it really would be pointless to try to pretend. David Lucas and Steven Blum are very much the same person, and by now the SAG is more than likely fully aware of that. What's more, I hear they're all bark and no bite, has anyone ever actually been punished by the SAG? As for ANN's encyclopedia, I'm all for it being truthful, and not perpetuating the attempts at subterfuge by certain actors. IMHO if you're going to be a part of a union you shoudl abide by its rules. So far, in the cases of the people we've seperated, none have asked it of us becuase they are trying to hide from SAG, they've had decent reasons. |

Another popular voice actor with identity problems is Robert Wicks/Bucholz. We know him as the guy who co-wrote for seasons 1& 2 of Digimon and the english voice of Gene Starwind from Outlaw Star.
The only reason I've ever heard of for his two names was "legal issues". |

The guy is a great voice actor but I mean, he has a dozen alias's. Including Roger Smith... the funny thing is that he played the character Roger Smith from Big O.
How original Mr. Blum.... how original. |
