I agree that the adaptation is fine so far, of course the animation could be better but I don’t think it’s as bad as many were making it out to be. One thing I am curious about though, since Japan is an episode ahead i wonder how this will affect the viewership for the rest of the world since some people might decide to just pirate in order to be caught up.

I feel like a lot of modern anime fans have become somewhat spoiled by the high-end shows. Sakamoto Days looks perfectly fine, better than a majority of the anime this season even. If the animation stays at this level, I’ll be fine with it.

I agree it's basically the standard you'd expect to see with most Shonen adaptations like My Hero Academia. I totally get wanting animation on the same level as Jujutsu Kaisen but what we got here is good too. |

I feel that a lot of shonen fans are spoiled when it comes to animation nowadays lol, if its not demon slayer quality then its “shit” |

I watched the 1st episode last Saturday, and this anime looks promising and I want to say this:
I wish Bee Train (the studio that was responsible for Noir, Madlax, and Phantom ~ Requiem for the Phantom) would've done the animation if the studio didn't become defunct in 2012 due to the departure of Koichi Mashimo. Given Bee Train's experience with action & gunfight, they would've done this animation really well including the stylized gunfight and action. But overall, I thought TMS's work on this is acceptable to me judging from watching the first episode. |

Honestly, I can't trust Bee Train after seeing their take on Tsubasa and the .hack Roots anime.I enjoyed Sakamoto's animation but I gotta say the flashback of how he got engaged was kinda rushed like a Spiderman cartoon as the love interest nearly kill herself. Also, what's Kagura doing in this anime? She moved from Gintama to Sakamoto. |

My Hero has better animation than this. Not to say SakaDays looks bad, but these two are not that comparable. |

I mean sure at its very peak but I'm speaking in general. Sakamoto Days hasn't gone on long enough so for all we know it could have a big moment similar to what MHA does in terms of animation. |

I'm not sure why the animation quality is such a big deal here - the tone is comedic so super sharp action scenes isn't something I need. I haven't read the manga, so maybe I'm missing what the tone is supposed to be? Please don't let it be like that mess of a show with the stupid kid and the weird monk where the show couldn't decide what it wanted to be. That had good animation, but failed hard to be anything enjoyable.
It was a very fun first episode. Definitely going to keep watching. |

While the series starts off as a slice-of-life action/comedy, it very quickly shifts towards full-on action/comedy, so the action is actually a pretty big focus of the series hence the concern in regards to the animation. |

This series definitely feels like its filling the void Gintama left behind. Even the chinese lady is pretty much more or less the Kagura equivalent of the show. I couldn't quite confirm from the voice if its also Kagura's VA voicing Lu but it does sound pretty close. I must say I'm not too fond of how they handled Lu's episode introduction as she kinda felt more like a princess in distress & needed saving quite a handful of times in the episode. Even her backstory felt very by the numbers in terms of content & presentation but it was... fine I guess. "Fine" is probably what I'd say about this series based on what I've seen so far. Its not anything exceptional or noteworthy but its doing an ok job.
The animation in the 2nd episode is notably worse for sure. The choreography for the short Lu fight scene at the start wasn't very smooth in terms of movement. It looked stiff at times but it was still very serviceable. Imagine if they gave it animation on par with Hinamatsuri's excellent first episode introductory fight scene. (A absolute hidden gem in the last months of 2018 & still eagerly awaiting for a 2nd season) The real disappointing animation though is the so-called "special move" of the 2 assassins . Its just a front close-up shot of their faces with repetitive slash effects at the sides of the screen.... followed by a shot of Sakamoto dodging those same repetitive slashes. I definitely didn't feel very impressed by that scene. I dont know how it looked in the manga but I'm sure they could have afforded to do a better job than what was displayed. |

I have less of an issue with animation shortcuts standard to a modest production (a good director can still make that hype) than I do the look of this show. Why are the colors so drab and ugly? Why is there a dirty filter over everything? It just makes it look far cheaper than it is.

The review and some comments seem to suggest the series has a major tonal shift later, likely from comedic tone to much-darker supernatural battle?! Did I over-think it?
Frankly I am okay with either way (I read enough Jump series and how their editorial system work to understand such tonal changes), just wondering if the change in overall tone would occur in this season, so I can change my expectations accordingly |

I think the disappointment with the animation is pretty apt since there's very few jokes for something supposed to be a comedic series. Minutes for minutes, almost all of the show is either battle or setup for battle, compared to something like spy x family (at least the first season) or heck even something like dragon ball/one piece early period. I'd say even compared to JJK, you're probably pretty close in the amount of joke per episode. And if its true that there'll be less joke over time, then it'll truly be just an action shonen.
So if the draw isn't really the comedy, nor does it have much of a deep world building and character for now are all pretty one note, then the battle need to carry everything. But its hard to argue that they do compared current battle shonen adaptation. Simply put, why would anyone watch this over something like JJK/demon slayer/fate whatever, outside of having already watched them? |

Not supernatural per se, though it will start taking more suspension of disbelief on the physical possibility of the feats (for instance, a guy spoiler[deflecting a bullet in such a way that it also re-sharpens his sword]). The central narrative gets more serious, and the slice of life largely disappears, though there's still comedy present in the appearance/quirks/obsessions of many of the characters. I expect you'll get a taste of the future direction this season, though I don't think it will fully change over until next season. |
