The first episode felt refreshing since the fiance was overprotective of Miyo which contrasts the scenes I hated how the relatives related to the mother treated the girl like an object enough to have a fight over her. The scene of the bed was intentionally ambiguous though the author's Twitter account was laughing over that. The second episode reminded me of parts I disliked from season 1 since the motherinlaw was pretty much a Disney villain who trashes poor innocent girls especially over some big pride. I wonder how it would be if the fiance knew. Still, the plot involving the police kinda feels like if two completely different plots are clashing to take over the series which results in distancing the leads. I still enjoy it but the treatment of Miyo still feels exaggerated

As someone who's read the light novels, it seems like episode 2 literally just speed ran through volume 3's content or left out a good chunk of it, probably in an attempt to downplay Fuyu's cruelty and make her more palatable. Like, the scene where they help the distressed man at the end of episode 2 happens near the end of volume 3.

Poor Miyo. She escapes from being treated like a servant by a harsh stepmother only to end up getting similar treatment from her mother-in-law. But at least she has Kiyoka and she has the resolve to keep facing Fuyu earnestly to try to win her over.
I don't know what's funnier, the fact that Kikuko Inoue is once again voicing Reina Ueda's mother-in-law or the fact that her in-laws are the Furukawa's from Clannad. |

I always get a bit of glee when I see actors do characters opposite to what they usually play. Belldandy and this evil Mother In Law are so far from each other character wise.

Fuyu is more reminiscent of Yukino and Haruno Yukinoshita's mother. Inoue sure does voice a lot of mother characters. |

I mean that's always been a thing about the series, a perfectly good Taisho era romantic drama that also has supernatural action mystery awkwardly stitched into it for some reason. |

I definitely noticed that, and I have two working theories: 1) they didn't want to pile on the Miyo-gets-bullied misery again 2) they're going to try to make a run through what remains of the light novels I'm a bit leery of the pacing, but I think it's working so far. |

I can definitely get behind that, especially since not only do I absolutely hate Fuyu, I hate even more how the the end of volume 3 spoiler[just...brushed off Fuyu's abuse of Miyo in an attempt to suddenly make her into an ally, which is not only absolute bullshit in that she's done absolutely nothing to earn it, it spits in the face of the series' message about how abuse is bad. "Miyo's evil stepmother is totes bad, but her mother-in-law is totes fine, even though she did a lot of the exact same things as Kanoko did!" Uuuuugh.] |

Thats interesting. Honestly, that seems like a really good cut to me. I don't think this show needed to spend half a season doing what sounds very much like a rehash of Miyos initial story, only this time inflicted by a character we don't get to dump. Indeed, if it had I probably would have dropped. |

I liked the first season, but I’m honestly already enjoying season 2 even more so far. It’s off to a really good start, upping the intensity but also furthering the main relationship.

I think Arata scolded Miyo a bit too harshly but him basically owning Fuyu made it worth it.
Nice father-son team-up and showing that Kiyoka's dad has got some moves in his old age and sickly health. Also, great work by Miyo! Really showing how both she and Kiyoka can save people and be a team even when they're not together, and and made all the better when they are together and can properly comfort each other. THEY FINALLY KISSED! And it was so beautiful. So Miyo has unlocked tsundere Fuyu. Only slightly more tolerable, but still better than the alternative. No, not Godo!!! So Miyo has a direct connection to the main antagonist. Not only are they related via the Usuba's but Naoshi almost married her mother. Now the question is whether he's just projecting on Miyo as his "daughter" that should have been or if he and Miyo's mom got busy before she married the Saimori's... |

spoiler[Having read the light novels, I can assure you that Naoshi is not Miyo's father, and he and Sumi didn't do anything before she married into the Saimoris. Not that that makes Miyo's pre-Kudo life any better.] |

Didn't they say they were trying to make it so everyone, and not just nobles could use magic (or powers or whatever)? That would seem to be in line with Usui leaving the family after not getting to marry into another noble family (sour grapes?), though how turning people into Grotesqueries would accomplish that is unknown. |

Really good opening to the supernatural mystery arc of this series. Good mystery, good motive, good fight, good personal connection. I look forward to it playing out.
Miyo and Kiyoka were cute this week as well. The music is telling me what a happy ending we are having to the Fuyu mini arc, as expected. I am not here for it. Being marginally less awful is still being awful. However, I take great solace that this probably means much less Fuyu going forward. |

Yeah, I’m glad they cut the Fuyu storyline short. The third novel was quite a slog to read
