Nice! I really like 3199. It’s definitely WAY better than 2202. Space Battleship Yamato remake is one of my all time favorite shows. My favorite character in the entire series is Akira Yamamoto. I really hope they don’t kill off Akira. She has so much more to offer. I would love to see a spin off series with her as the main character and have Melda Dietz involved in it as well. It would be awesome. Let’s hope for the better future for Yamato.

You do know that the Character she's based on, Died in both the Movie version and Series 2 of the Original, which 2202 is based on, right?

Well of course I do. However she really outlive her original version. She survived 2202 and 2205. Not to mention, she has WAY more character development and screen time than the original character did. Call me crazy but i would argue that out of all the characters in the entire franchise Akira Yamamoto (2199 version) has the most character development. That’s one of the many reasons why she’s my favorite character in Space Battleship Yamato franchise and even one of my favorite female characters in anime in general. Even though she is based on the character in the 1974 series, she has a lot of differences from the original. Just like there is quite a bit of differences between 2199 and the original version overall. I’m sticking to my guns about Akira. You’re still cool nonetheless.

It's all good Akira's one of my favorite characters in the remake too, just I didn't like how they did a literal Ass pull to explain her survival in 2202

Yeah I understand what you’re saying. Not to mention, they need to do more with her character. Like they need to have Akira move on from the love triangle between her, Yuki and Kodai. They also need to have her to do better in hand to hand combat. She lost to Melda twice in hand to hand and almost got killed in the dogfight. She got beating up pretty badly by Touko Katsuragi and left unconscious in 2202 episode 12. I’m glad she survived. However, Akira is probably going to have less screen time than she even did in 2202 and 2205. That’s why I think a spin off sequel with Akira as the main character with Melda in it as well would be great for her character and also emulate some of the elements in the 2199 scarlet eyed witch manga particularly with Akira’s backstory. I hope she survives in 3199.

Yeah, the wait is pretty brutal. But I guess, at least, it's better than the schedules some of those 80s and 90s OVAs had, right?

Yeah I’m very happy as well. They released them around like 3 or 4 days right after it was released in theaters in Japan. The one thing I do wish they did was an English Dub immediately. They still have to dub 2202 chronicle and 2205 (but is unlikely at this point). I wish 2014 Odyssey Ark had a release along with the original series as well. (I prefer the remake over the original but I still love it.)

Same. I love that CR is releasing it right away this time, but I'm probably going to wait for the dub, so I agree I wish they'd pick up the pace on dubbing the rest of the content and dub these episodes immediately since they've already dubbed parts of the remake.

Yeah, count me in as another fan of her character.
I really hope she makes it through as well. I'd certainly watch that, love her character and she doesn't get enough to do or successes in the storyline and always enjoyed their interactions ever since the beginning in the first season.

I’m SO glad someone agrees with me. She has a lot of character development but not enough. Akira and Melda have amazing chemistry together. 2205 only lasted for 8 episodes and it’s definitely not enough at ALL. Akira does have pretty good chemistry with Klaus Keyman but I still prefer her with Melda. The one thing I wish they did with Akira in 2202 is see her more on screen interactions with Klaus. Like a OVA that takes place during the events of 2202 and have it like 4-6 episodes of it. Kinda like how the Odyssey Ark film took place during the events of 2199. I kinda want to know what happened to Akira after being unconscious from the attack by Touko Katsuragi in 2202 episode 12 and on the next episode where she surprisingly appeared where they did a mission but didn’t really showed it. One of my few main criticisms of the remake is that they always add in too much new characters which really hurts the potential of not just Akira but also other characters as well and they’ve been doing it ever since 2202. They’re probably going to give the villains, and the ones that appeared first in 2205 and 3199 more screen time like the ones that are fresh out of college. That’s another reason why I’m a advocate for Akira having a spin off sequel. I’m not gonna lie. As silly as it sounds, I do references on Akira all the time because ever since I first watched Space Battleship Yamato remake, I always thoughts Akira could fit in anything anime or not because of how her personality fits perfectly well. Like Initial D, Cowboy Bebop, Big O, The Apothecary Diaries, Frieren, Death Note etc etc etc. but that’s just me.

I don't know that I'd go quite that far myself, but I'd definitely be down to see her in a spin-off series.
As much as I love Yamato, it does tend to suffer a bit for having such an unwieldy number of characters. Makes it hard for even the secondary-cast to find their time in the limelight.

Did you know Akira has a manga spin off called 2199 Ace with Scarlet Eyes which is about her own perspective during 2199 but went WAY more in depth on her backstory than they did in the anime. Honestly, i actually like the female characters in Yamato more than even the males overall because with the exception with some female characters, they overall have more character development and other things too. Don’t get me wrong I like the male characters as well but I tend to prefer the female characters and they’re mostly in my top 10 favorite characters in Yamato.
