The giant characters have always been a problem in any Dragonball game where they appear. To some extent, I get it since the Z Fighters do tend to struggle with them, but they always end up being my least favorite part.

Overall, though the Tenkaichi series does focus more on a lore accurate balance than something more generally competitive. I remember playing Tenkaichi 3 against someone and letting him have a full team while I only picked SS4 Gogeta. I still won.

"character balance" was never really a thing in the Budokai series, lol. It's not trying to be a competitive fighting game.

Isn't the title of this "Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero" and not "Sparkling"?

Does the game the latest Super forms from Gohan, Piccolo and Vegeta? Poor Ultra Ego wasn't able to win a single fight in the manga so a what if about it could be useful for the game. Gohan developing Beast was fun but his design involving glasses and Piccolo's gi was also really fun to see in the movie. Still, the design from the Super Hero poster kept Gohan still wearing a cape and many of my friends also wanted the Great Saiyaman since it fits the whole Super Hero title.

That's precisely why I've been looking forward to the game myself. I miss the era of these kinds of games before esports/FGC made everything so sweaty.

Balancing character tiers was a thing since Street Fighter II. Despite being the protagonist, Ryu was the lowtier of the game due change in regards to the shoryuken when compared to Ken's. That's why Capcom kept rereleasing the game with new balances, characters, and later Super moves. The last one was the one that introduced Akuma as a hidden boss while two extra versions were made for modern consoles with completely new visuals and then the inclusion of Evil Ryu and Violent Ken.

KOF used to do the thing since they released a game per year until 2003. Kyo was originally a shoto easy to use but in 96 he became a weaker rekka fighter. In 97 and 98 once again was a rekka but with a move that made him a big tier character. They say that 98 and 2000 were the most balanced games and with the release of the remake 98 um and 2002 um, these two were the most complete since they gathered almost every famous boss from SNK

I don't know about Vegeta, but stuff from the Hero movie is slated for DLC, so that is where I would expect things for Gohan and Piccolo, and possibly a giant Piccolo.

You didn’t need the esports or fgc community to foster these changes. All you had to do was make a bunch of competitively broken and unfun fighting games which lived and died on this to make people realize.

Having moves that can lead into infinite combos or shave off 90% of an opponents health in one go is pretty dumb.

Might be helpful to post your GPU/CPU when reviewing PC ports, especially if you're going to talk about optimization.

That's really the best way to describe a lot of these "What If? scenarios," huh? It's really amazing just how many different WI?S are scattered throughout the Dragon Ball Games, and just how little imagination is put into the vast majority of them. We've got two entire XenoVerse games, each offerin a full array of WI?Ss, all of which are just, "What if in this one fight with a Steong Guy, there was also Another Strong Guy present?"

When the first WI?S that leaked for Sparkin Zero leaked, it was "What if Zamasu fused with Gohan instead of Goku?" A question whose answer begins and ends with, "He'd have slightly different hair."

Apparently Tenkaichi 2, way back when, had an entirely reimagine Soiyan and Namek arc predicated on the idea of Raditz losing his memory and becoming a good guy -- sounds pretty interesting, yeah? And one of the Budokai games for PSP was structured along a WI?S covering the Major Buu arc from the perspective and setting of Future Trunks. Shame we can't get more stories like that.

Sounds like a great Dragonball game experience!

A little bummed the story branching doesn't amount to much but I was kind of expecting it.

There is a lot more to the Gohan Black fan concept than that since its zamasu combating a pacifist body that has untapped potential that's harder to control but I'm guessing the game doesn't explore any of this judging from your comment.

I was hoping something like the BT2 Raditz what if was in Sparking Zero. Never heard about the one from Future Trunks perspective in Buu saga. sounds like they should try to get similar writers like that back in the games.

I feel like it used to be wayyy back in the earlier games. Well, maybe not "balance" so much as "characters not totally busted". Then after they started separating and spinning off characters by form (like holy lord how many Gokus do we need?) the notion of balance was definitely completely obliterated. Which is a shame I think because I just want to experience the novelty of beating up the galaxy's strongest warriors with a dumb gag character like Mr. Satan sometimes*, but if the game's actual mechanics are gonna go get all "lore accurate" it sucks a bit of that fun out.

*why yes I did play a lot of Yamcha and Videl in FighterZ, does it show? Anime smile + sweatdrop

More or less until he attempts to sacrifice himself to stop Napa’s & Vegeta from landing on Earth.

I imagine it's not a popular opinion, but I fell in love with the one that was on the Wii due to the motion controls. I can perfectly execute all of the hand motions, and were it not for that title's terrible programming problems with netcode, the online functions of it would have probably been really solid for its time too.

It leaves me really conflicted any time they announce one of these, because I have & love DBFZ already, and they're likely not gonna beat that out as far as technical & competitive perfection is concerned. Same with Xenoverse - if I want a less-competitive "make my own character" sort of DBZ game, I'd play Xenoverse.... So without the stellar motion controls Tenkaichi 3 had with the Wiimote, I have a hard time getting excited for a third copy of an experience I've already watched/played to death in other formats.

apprently, some people still play wii's exclusive online version instead of the PS2 splitscreen and they fixed the netcode to an extent via some tinkering
