This is a companion piece to a Sword Oratoria novel where Lefiya coaches a different catch of students; that one came out first in Japan and addressed a lot of your questions about how the school itself operates. Sounds like going out of order did detract from the experience a bit.

Wow, totally missed that this one was out today.

Do find it strange that this one is coming out in English before Sword Oratoria v13, since that one was published several months earlier. It's due out in December, so now I'm left wondering if I should wait for that one before reading this one.

This was a fun volume. It's nice seeing Bell take a mentor role, enjoy new experiences, and broaden his horizons, and I'll admit I enjoyed the harem comedy. I'm curious what the setup is for Leon, given his shockingly high status.

After having only recently finished Volume 18, I'm glad 19 is a lighter affair and shorter as well. Shame about Sword Oratoria 13 being a tie-in to this and not being available until later this year, but I'm a bit ashamed to admit I'm way behind on those books anyway...

I was getting my story for Sword Oratoria from the Memoria Freese mobile game. Would be nice if we eventually got a continuation of that in anime form, too.

But from the little bit that I did read of Volume 19 so far spoiler[I AM SO HAPPY RYU IS FINALLY IN HESTIA FAMILIA!]

The good news is, if you wanted to jump straight into the novels, if you finished the 6th anniversary event of Memoria Freese that covered through volume 12 of Sword Oratoria so you aren't actually behind at all
the only noticeable difference between the LNs and the game is that spoiler[ Leene dies for real in the LNs and isn't weirdly retconned to not be dead the way the game did ]

I think I completely skipped the 6th anniversary. My heart just wasn't in it after the 5th one and when they eventually announced no new story content. I actually didn't know that about spoiler[Leene coming back]. Can you elaborate?

Okay so spoiler[ In 8th Sword Oratoria novel, the one focusing on Bete, Leene dies at the beginning, however when Memoria Freese added that story to the main story content, they included an epilogue that "revealed" that Leene didn't actually die, Aiz happened to have a potion on her that saved Leene but she needed to temporarily leave the city to recover from her injuries.
That's why later in the part of the story that covers the Xenos incident from Finn's perspective, Sword Oratoria 10, in Memoria Freese there's a moment where they cut to Leene standing guard with the other Loki Familia members, but she doesn't say anything.
Because she's not in that scene in the LN, because she's dead, so there's no dialogue of hers to include when they add her to that scene in the mobile game
My guess as to why they did this is that 1) for a pretty lighthearted mobile gacha game the horrific death of a character like Leene is a real downer and 2) if they suddenly stop including Leene in events, particularly the multi-year Idol storyline they kept coming back to, it might reveal her death for new players who hadn't played through the Sword Oratoria main story content.]
