I am assuming Nintendo do not want to deal with any likeness to Charles Martinet in a new licensed product and the AI company in no way had access to Chris Pratt's voice reproduction. So they had to make their own voice and it was... not great.
The fact the AI is just an advertising vehicle does not help its credibility. |

Wouldn't this have been a perfect opportunity to use the new Mario VA...

There are stories of Martinet being able to man booths like this for hours because he would keep up the energy during the entire day and never sound bored or disinterested. This AI model…isn’t that.

You're all skipping over the most important bit from the article:
It's supposed to be a demonstration of what it can do. Apparently Proto Inc isn't aware of just how litigious Nintendo is when it comes to unauthorized uses of their IP. They should have gone with Steamboat Willie. Emerje |

This looked too cursed to be real, and then the quote
showed up and... I'm no lawyer but this sure feels like a future "Nintendo sued them" kind of ending |

Doing something like this without Nintendo's permission is not smart. Have fun with the C&D, idiots

Honestly the most concerning part of this is that, it's apparently supposed to be a showcase of technology they hope to use to combat loneliness in the elderly (https://www.eurogamer.net/creepy-ai-powered-mario-hologram-not-endorsed-by-nintendo-company-admits), hence the AARP mention, which is just... why not spend all that money and time researching this on community outreach programs instead? Otherwise, it feels a little too close to the tech saviorism satire Live Forever as You Are Now With Alan Resnick for my tastes.

Or put more money into geriatric care and home health so they can talk to real people because I sure know I'm tired of working short handed. Meanwhile the government is trying to push unrealistic minimum staffing limits for a work pool that doesn't exist. Emerje |

Yeah for sure, there's much better and more needed ways of handling the issue than selling the elderly (and predatory nursing homes) a glorified chatbot. |

There are earlier efforts on similar projects to to combat loneliness in elderly with help of robots, in Japan and Canada; https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/ai-robots-senior-companions-1.6973188 |
