Easily one of my favorites this season. Top 3. I looked forward to it each week.
Sad the bad subs probably sent so many away. Hope more people decide to check this one out. |

I love that you're reviewing the hidden gems of fall 2023 (Overtake and The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons), Rebecca! Those were two of my surprise favorites. Any plans for reviewing My New Boss is Goofy?

Yup, very unfortunate. It is an amazing slice of life show and due to those bad subs many people dropped it like it's hot. |

Yes! It was such a good season for hidden gems. I expected to love this one because I've been reading the manga in Italian (keeping up foreign language skills = excellent excuse to buy manga), but both Overtake and My New Boss is Goofy were total surprises in the best way for me. |

I only just started watching this just now, as I had too many other shows I wanted to watch. But from what little I've seen, this is a very cute show. Thankfully the subtitles for the first episode have been fixed, and the rest seem to be fine.

Yeah, I wish Brother Falcon and Mikoto were more fleshed out
One thing that bothered me is that I found the mother a bit negligent, especially when it came to Mikoto? Wish we got to know a bit more about their parents… This series did have some impressive animation in some parts. Notable example being the fight between Minato and Uta. Really loved Gakuto’s relationship with Grandpa Kojiro. |

Overtake! and The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons were the underrated anime of the season. I love both so much.

This was one of my favorite underrated shows of the season and I was glad I waited for the subs to be fixed. It was such a cozy show every week that also dealt with some surprising deep themes in a way I thought was very nuanced and thoughtful.

I'll probably check this out, sounds interesting
Did crunchyroll ever explain why those subs were so bad or apologize? They're like the biggest anime streaming service and yet it seems like quality control has gotten way worse. |

I enjoyed this show but I also wanted to see more character development for Mikoto and Hayato. I feel like we got the least amount for Mikoto and I have a feeling he is similar to the others without them knowing it.
I actually went to check out the horrible subs because I wondered if they were really that bad or not but I only saw the replacement subs. They were still missing words and punctuation at times throughout the series but I could usually understand what was being said. |

^ To give you an idea, from Rebecca's Preview Guide: '“Yuzuki-sensei” translated as “Sir Yuzuki” (yes, in a school setting) and Hayato's name is translated in the subtitles (“Falcon brother”) to Uta's name is misspelled as “Udo” every time after the first occurrence, to one stretch where lines are doubled-up on the screen as if someone is repeating themselves or two people are talking at once...' Yep, they were that bad.
I really loved Uta and her family. I think I liked them better than the brothers. I also appreciate the occasional artistic surprise or flair, like when Uta and Minato spoiler[ran screaming hysterically down the street with rl backgrounds, which was already cool...and then suddenly a flying stag beetle swoops in toward her face out of nowhere.] And when they're taking the bus spoiler[to visit the family grave, Gakuto is looking out the window onto rl scenery until that fades into a beautifully rendered charcoal scene of younger Gakuto and his parents waiting at a bus stop.] (I tagged it in case you plan to watch and do want to be surprised) |

Oh no. What a hot mess. All of the criticism was justified and earned. I would’ve dropped it myself after that, but I would’ve tried watching again after reading the subtitles has been corrected. Thanks for sharing! |
