Very interesting to see the dichotomy of the two new anime from this season that are essentially "mainstream" programs in Japan (& not part of a long-runner or consistent franchise), but outside of Japan only Frieren is really getting any attention, while Daigo might as well not even exist, considering how barely anyone even talks about it.

It’s not surprising. Viz went on record, iirc, that the original Daigo sold *horribly* for them, and they only ever finished publishing it because it had fans in the staff. American manga/anime fans don’t seem that interested in firefighting, apparently. It doesn’t help that this anime is based on the sequel manga.

The original Daigo manga came out roughly 15-20 years ago, so most anime fans watching simulcasts wouldn't even have known about that series. Also, it's a next-gen sequel starring a completely unique cast, so it's completely newbie friendly & all of the promotion & ads barely even brought up the OG series.
As for it being about firefighting, that certainly didn't stop Fire Force from finding an audience, so maybe you should have clarified that people aren't interested in more realistic firefighting. Again, I just find it interesting how widely watched it is in Japan, no doubt helped by the simple fact that it airs in prime time instead of late night, but is ignored abroad.

Nah, c’mon, Fire Force was a total battle Shonen, it barely counts as a firefighter series.
I think anyone who did basic research on Daigo would find out it’s a sequel, and I think most people wouldn’t assume it’s new viewer friendly.
