Hard to miss a feature that I didn't know it had. Then again, I haven't touched that "Share" button since seeing what it did when I first got my PS4 ten years ago. From other coverage of this, it sounds like Microsoft already dropped it from Xbox because of the price increase, and it has more money to spend on stuff than Sony does.

You can't even share stuff on Facebook anymore either. |

The share button is still used to save clips of gameplay. You can upload them directly to youtube. |

What, was Elon seriously expecting something like "Oh, I'll just charge money to them to share stuff and no company will change or stay off my beloved platform and I'll start bringing in money!"? I find it funny that everyone, big and small, is leaving.
If Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo end up integrating Bluesky instead, that would be the most hilarious thing ever! Maybe once Bluesky lets you post gifs and vids |

I doubt any company would willingly go for anything less than the top social media platform, and X is still going to be the dominate social media platform regardless of how many issues people have with Elon Musk and go to less-functional platforms like Bluesky out of spite. Most people don't care about that stuff. I doubt any notable company is going to prioritize support for a less popular platforms outside of cases like Instagram pushing Threads since it's the same company and they have an incentive to do so. If this really is about API costs, then it's just companies being cheap, and their customers are losing out on because of it. Assuming that is the reason, and it's not something like them wanting to try to push their own proprietary platform. I'd put the blame on Sony for doing this rather than X itself. If they also removed Facebook support than there's probably more to it. The Switch is also removing support for Twitch as well. |

iirc, they removed Facebook support around 2019 for the PS4 and the PS5 never had access to it as an option. |

I don’t know why when many sites and the like are killing Twitter integration which would suggest that Elon’s idiocy in properly running the platform is responsible for this. Not the other way around. No one anywhere is losing out on not being able to bind their accounts to a barely functional site especially one whose value has drop substantially in the last year. Previously, access to Twitter's API was free, in most cases. Their most expensive enterprise tier cost about $35k/year. Under the new pricing scheme, which has no free access, their cheapest enterprise plan is $504k/year. The most expensive one goes up to $2.52M/year. Companies are cutting twitter support not because they're "being cheap" but because they literally cannot afford it. Those prices are ridiculous. Sure, Sony could probably afford $2.52M, but I'm sure some manager doing a cost/benefit analysis took a look at paying that much just to let users tweet from the PS5s and immediately said absolutely not. In the end, they're running a business, after all. |

I haven't used Twitter since Musk bought it, but I'm still taking screenshots every day. If I really felt like it, I could just transfer then upload them to the site still...but I don't.

I seriously doubt Bluesky is ever going to receive such large-scale support. It's going to fade away like all the other social alternatives have done before it because there's no compelling reason to use it over X for the average person. It's always genuinely confusing to see people willingly choose to use an objectively worse site with less features, people, and functionality because of something like not liking the guy who runs the better platform. That being said, I never used this feature on my PS4 so I can't say I'm bothered by this. I do wonder if this is more of a pivot to gaming consoles using their own special platforms and services though. Xbox is also removing support for third-party applications and now controllers as well. While the Miiverse was pretty funny back in the day for the memes, even Nintendo gave up on that idea pretty quickly. I suspect it'll take PlayStation and Microsoft a bit longer to figure that one out though. |

I think you need a refresher on why people don’t use Twitter which is not simply because people don’t like Elon https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Elon_Musk#Twitter This guy literally has made Twitter worse than it already was. Like Elon does have legitimate reasons for why people hate him and therefore might not want to associate with anything he touches. But again his oversight and management of Twitter is why the site has problems currently with it’s functionality, support, & value and the site’s not getting better. |

If that's true then social media as a whole must be dying or at least in serious decline. Twitter has lost more than half its value in a year, that's not a sign of a healthy company.
Most people don't use Twitter at all and never have, which probably helped contribute to this decision. The large majority of PS users probably never purposefully hit that button more than once.
All of these platforms are unpopular in the grand scheme of things (Twitter is widely talked about, but that's not the same thing as being popular. If it was, they wouldn't be hemorrhaging money) but only Twitter had the audacity to charge for its ultimately trivial integration. Bluesky will probably never reach the same number of users as Twitter (we'll never know for sure since Twitter's numbers are massively inflated by bots) but if they do, I doubt Bluesky will be dumb enough to charge for API. |
