We saw that back with Chris Pratt voicing Mario in the movie and people claiming he was "stealing" the role from Martinet so it makes sense they'd do the same here when they perceive someone else is doing the same and not fit to voice the iconic character. Personally, I don't care about Mario's voice. Until Mario starts actually talking and having actual dialog it's about as important as who does the HAIYAAs for Link, who has been voiced by many people over the years. The VA for Link in Breath of the Wild was different from the one in Link's Awakening and I never heard a peep about that change or difference.

Having played about 6 hours on Mario Wonder yesterday, I can't complain about the new voice of Mario.
Mainly because I'm too busy sobbing and stabbing my ears out over the other sounds effects in the game.

Didn't know about Noriko Mitose, that's pretty sweet! I just ordered the first game off of LRGs a few weeks back because I saw they had Aoi Yuki voicing Cirno. Perfect casting right there, couldn't resist

Mmmn, nope, not a good comparison. Pratt was a stunt-cast for a Hollywood movie--casting him as Mario when (as far as we know) Martinet was still around to voice Mario was like making a Spongebob Squarepants movie and replacing Tom Kenny with [insert flavor-of-the-month star here]. Doesn't help that Pratt pretty much sleepwalked through the role (because being a movie actor doesn't translate to being a good voice actor).

Eh, considering Afghani's performance sounds almost exactly like Martinet, it seems this is a Mickey Mouse situation where it's more about maintaining continuity. And that's fine, that itself is actually a lot harder than people like to admit.

There are sets that are significantly cheaper on their site (under 30$ AUD); still not sure if it's region free though.

The original Mario movie is a cautionary tale, that even with the seemingly most lowbrow, simplest plots (guy goes from left to right to save a princess from a dragon) the inherent desire to "improve" the lowbrow medium, 9 times out of 10, results in an unwatchable slurry that may be ironically funny at points (MONKEY!) but is otherwise terrible. I don't know why that needed to be enshrined in 4K, most of the people who could be sat down to elaborate on what a miserable experience the filming allegedly was have passed (most notably Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper) and the directors are still alive, so making fun of them endlessly in special features about what a stupid idea it was to try and make Mario their Batman would be in exceptionally poor taste.
So, uh, yeah, in happier news, Ultra stuff is everywhere there's a seeming market and it fits. It's been said Tsuburaya has gone into overdrive getting Ultra stuff out to the people to make up for lost time and Chiayo's mechanizations (such as the reveal this week in the 2000s they specifically blocked an attempt at an American Ultraman movie starring Will Smith). The Ultraman Blazar live show at New York Comic Con was surprisingly filled to capacity to the point they were turning away congoers (this a week after Blazar was a guest mascot at a Taiwanese science and technology expo) and we just got our first look at Shannon Tindle's take on Ultraman. If there's a market, Tsuburaya seems happy to work with you.

Thank you so much for the heads-up on this, this being one of my all-time non-ironic favorite movies. Yes this movie is "weird", but it's weird the same way that Beetlejuice is weird--fun, funny, entertaining, creative, imaginative, strangely charming, and there's nothing else like it (I will always argue in a positive way).

At least they ship to the United States, and this set is supposed to be region-free. The UHD Blu-Ray certainly will be, since UHD Blu-Rays do not have region coding.
