David also played Steel in a British television supernatural sci-fi/fantasy series Sapphire & Steel co-staring Joanna Lumley as Sapphire. Produced by ATV, it ran from 1979 to 1982 on the ITV network trying to cash in on Doctor Who.

Back in the day, I lived in a building.
We didn't have cable but Kids WB was free and I watched Batman on it with my little brother. I liked Alfred, he was cool. When I saw NCIS, I only watched the show when he had his own episodes. I'm going to miss him, he was awesome. For some reason I always imagined him becoming a detective in a show. I hope his friends and family are doing well... |

No matter how old you are,it's usually sad when you die. Considering how long David McCallum's been around,it's doubly sad. For my mom's generation,he starred as the charming Russian Illya Kuryakin in "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." More recently,he's been known as the coroner "Ducky" Mallard in "NCIS." In between those,he starred in a short-lived 1970's version of "The Invisible Man." He also did a lot of British productions. He did programs like "Colditz" and as Dorian mentioned "Sapphire & Steel."
He did voice work as well. Here,he played Alfred Pennyworth in the English dub of the anime "Batman:Gotham Knight." He'd return to the role in two other "Batman" animated films. He also did the "Doctor Who"-like character Professor Paradox on "Ben 10." He also appeared in shows like "Star Wars:The Clone Wars" and "Batman:The Brave and the Bold." He also did a critically acclaimed documentary of the "Titanic" disaster in the 1990's which has to rank as among his best work. Ironic,because he played Harold Bride in a British film of the disaster called "A Night To Remember." RIP Mr. McCallum. Your life was a long one but also a good one. I remember anxiously awaiting Thursday nights when I was a middle schooler in the 1960s so I could watch The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and David McCallum starring as Illya Kuryakin, Napoleon Solo's (Robert Vaughn) brainy sidekick. Even though Robert Vaughn was the established well-known star, I though McCallum was cool (maybe because of his accent). It wasn't until 2 years after the show premiered that I realized he really wasn't Russian but actually Scottish. Years later I was pleasantly surprised to find him starring on NCIS and started watching him revise his role as an above-average (brainy) pathologist alongside Mark Harmon (as Jethro Gibbs). It was like I was a teenager again watching The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Because of that chance happenstance I got to watch him perform splendidly for 10+ years again. Unfortunately, today I have to formally bid him farewell, but I will remember him fondly until the end of my days (hopefully I can reach 90 just like him my formal idol). R.I.P. David. You will be missed.

People may know David for a lot of other things, but I'll always remember him as the voice of Professor Paradox from Ben 10. Rest In Peace, time walker.

I was surprised to see this, I had no idea he'd done any anime work. I was never an active fan of NCIS, but at one point it was pretty much inescapable on cable syndication, and I definitely enjoyed his work on it. Rest in peace.

I'm showing my age here but I faintly remember seeing reruns of The Man From Uncle when I was a kid, didn't really like the show though.

He was pretty much finished with NCIS but it's a shame if the strikes may have meant he couldn't appear one last time. He was already 70 when he started the show, a time when most actors would have been retired.

I thought he looked familiar... I was really into NCIS at one point and Ducky was such a great character. That was, like, 15ish years ago though...Guess that shows the longevity of the series. Never realised he was that old. RIP, thanks for everything.
