Quote: | Chainsaw Man won the award the last two years consecutively. |
Shouldn't there be a rule stating that something that's already won an award is no longer eligible for the same award in future years? I mean, I really enjoyed Chainsaw Man like many others, but does it really need to be continually nominated three years in a row, and winning twice? Either that, or the award should clarify which set of volumes is being considered, because unlike American comics (which see writer & artist changes often enough that repeat nominations can theoretically be for different runs) a manga is all done by the same person(s), so just listing the title itself makes it sound as though the entire series is being continually nominated, and not just a specific run of volumes.
At least Shuna's Journey doesn't feel like the obvious winner this time around, unlike with the Eisners.

I think SPY x FAMILY has a better shot this year; the anime should still be fresh enough on everyone's minds. It's between that and Chainsaw Man again, really.

So Americans chose the mess that is Chainsaw Man over the clear to its depth in comparison, with continued suspense Spy x Family for 2 years... what bullshit.
I don't know the other nominations, but I kinda doubt they're as sophisticated and unique as SxF.

I've been meaning to watch Drops of God, but every time I try to the subs are desynced which is kind of a huge problem for a show in French and Japanese

The Emmy awards have this problem every year because the current show or actor du jour tends to dominate for the several years that the given show is at its hottest -- like, the several years in a row that Julia Louis-Dreyfus won the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy for her show Veep. Here, it'd definitely implied that only the volumes of the given series that were published during the year the awards cover are the ones that are eligible for that award.

If Chainsaw Man hadn't won the last two years in a row, I'd say, "Oh, so?" But I would still put my bet on Shuna's Journey this year 1) because it's Miyazaki, and 2) the Harveys definitely have the same intellectual/perceived merit aspirations as every other industry awards show that's determined by insiders.

It took Miyazaki´s manga only 4 decades to leave Japan in unscanlated form and the awards keep coming. What a shock! Was there some licensing fee that created issues as I refuse to believe that some no-name like First Second Books was the first to see the value in a single-volume release by an Oscar winner? Tales from Earthsea´s release in 2006 should have been when it left Japan due to its "connection".
Chainsaw Man 2 is now the name of the game so they can put that on the ballet to not seem totally deranged, lol. Fujimoto has a 2/5 of winning this year. I see.

I feel like it's kind of a copout to nominate the same mangaka twice for best manga. Like I get it's for two different titles but there's no reason to nominate Fujimoto twice especially if Chainsaw Man has already won in previous years. Like was there no other big name mangaka they could have picked for that slot?
