What, no Twitter or TikTok?
Talk about a lolsuit. Sounds like people are looking for a quick grift payout.

I certainly wouldn't go that far. A lawsuit is warranted, but it's pretty common in situations like this for parties to sue basically everyone that might be related just to see what sticks, who's willing to pay out of court to avoid a legal battle and who's willing to fight to get the suit dropped along with those who actually do deserve to be sued.

I think this way to make the companies assume responsibility and take action quicker? More than financial gain.
Honestly it seems like a fruitless endeavor.

I saw this coming.
At the very least, I thought it was going to be a possibility that they would take this kind of action.

I honestly wasn't expecting a lawsuit that broad...
Regardless of what people think about it, I still maintain my view that this action, while understandable from the point of view of the victims, has to be challenged in every possible way (and not because I like any of the actors involved).

The first amendment and Section 230 pretty much makes this a waste of time and money. I'm not sure if body armor companies have the same liability immunity as gun manufacturers do but that also seems like a weird person to go after. But their whole point of suing Twitch is because the guy livestreamed it there, despite the fact Twitch took it down when they were notified of it and banned the account and did everything they were obliged to do. This is not a lawsuit made in good faith. Obviously if it goes to court it'll be thrown out, but I suspect they're hoping for a big company to offer them settlement to make them go away,.

I think the best goal this could aim for is forcing social media companies to change their algorithms to not promote hateful content

Thought a recent supreme court of the united states ruling last month basically said social media platforms cant be held liable for what is said on the platforms...think the case involved victims of a terrorist attack saying the platforms allowed people to become radicalized by content on them
so i dont think this will go in the families favor

This may be more of a "messaging" lawsuit than one with a hope of winning. But a message that exposes the role of the 4chan/EncyclopediaDramatica anime/gamer/incel "Troll Nation" in creating or propagating many of the most toxic and hateful political trends and ideologies of the last 7-10 years is a message worth getting out there.

And if they were only suing those entities perhaps that message gets across. But by suing Facebook/Meta, Good Smile Company, and a litany of other entities, there's no real focus and it just looks like a shotgun to get whatever money they can from the tragedy. Not really something to do if trying to send a direct "message".

It's the same as people thinking video games/movies/rock and roll causes violence. It's absurd to think someone seeing a meme on Facebook is what causes people to go on killing sprees, but there's plenty of unscrupulous lawyers out there willing to take even the most frivolous of lawsuits if they can get paid for it.

More complicated than you'd think. Nothing will ever be satisfactory for anyone, especially given our present where nigh anything can offend somebody else. Which big corpo/government entity will serve as the Ministry of Hate? Will the rules waver back'n'forth with every party change? Algorithms and AI are not magical spells independent of the people behind the curtain or the users driving the attention.

And this is why, you should not outsource your parenting to tech giants. As for other families, and this is why, you should also care with other kids who are not your children when they need help, guidance and love.
In the end, the ultimate blame will be on the shooter, but you guys, with your indifference, and neglect sadly, contributed to this problem.

-Mass shootings are massive news stories
-Blame everything on the 4chan boogie man
-Would be shooters now know the best place the plan things out
-Would be shooters now have like minded individuals to help and encourage each other
-Mass shootings continue forever $$$
Has anybody ever tried suing news media companies for perpetuating mass shootings? I don’t see any companies like Facebook, Reddit or 4chan guaranteeing fame and glory for carrying out a shooting. But I know that if I shot a place up, I could count on Rupert Murdoch to make me the most famous person in the country overnight.
Also, anime news?
