I had fun watching this show a week or so ago. There were a few twists here and there that kept it from being as predictable as I thought it would be, plus it had the added bonus of actually reaching a conclusion. One's opinion of the ending will likely vary, but I'm satisfied with it.
Casting was interesting too, with a mix of newer actors and veterans, so kudos to Caitlin Glass on the casting. I also share Rebecca's sentiment about Jamie Marchi. There is a bit of typecasting, but she plays those characters so well that I don't get tired of it.

I thought the ending was way too over-ambitious and ultimately a cheap cop-out. I blame myself for having some expectations of this after the episode where the quasi-immortal girl is finally on the way to die, something she's been wanting to do for a while, but decides to make it a puzzle the main characters can solve after 20 minutes.

I hate how FUNimation just turn into absolutely goddamn animals sometimes and only release stuff on DVD.

That's a bit of an overreaction, especially since this show is a Kadokawa title, and Kadokawa has a habit of requiring that the first release be DVD-only with the blu-ray coming out much later. People blame Funimation for this all the time, and yet Kadokawa is the common denominator for most things that come out DVD only.

Are you joking? Its the Japanese side that are to blame. You think FUNimation wants to release a new show only on DVD? They lose sales from those that only want the show on blu-ray, its not something they want.

Relax, I'm kidding. While I do find it mildly annoying, I know it's not FUNi's fault. I'm a big fan of FUNi.

Most of the Riddle anime's content, including the ending, is anime-original because of how little source manga material there is.
When the anime came out there were only 2 volumes published (Now there are 3 volumes, with a 4th coming in late January). The manga chapters been published infrequently since 2012.

Yep, that's pretty much what I thought in a nutshell. I was hooked on the show from the first episode while it was never really mind-blowing I definitely enjoyed tuning in every week. The action scenes, the cast, the art direction, Sugita's character, there was just something indescribably cool about it all.
But BOY was that ending awful. I mean it's a show about lesbian assassins where no one dies and most of the relationships are implied. Tokaku and Haru might as well have just been really good friends. There's nothing in there to imply that their relationship goes any deeper than that.
As for the dub I've only seen the first episode but it's very solid stuff. I'm not familiar with Morgan Berry's voice work, but she's great in this show. From hearing her as Kyoko in Madoka Magica I knew that Lauren Landa would be a perfect casting choice as Nio and her performance sounds pretty much exactly how I envisioned it. Also you'd think I'd be a little annoyed hearing Alexis Tipton in just about every new Funimation dub but surprisingly I'm not. I probably still prefer Kanemoto, but her natural cutesy-ness make her a great pick for Haru.
On top of that McCollum has all of Sugita's charisma and the script has a nice bite to it that really works to the show's advantage. It's not enough to make me want to go out and buy the DVD (Even if I was okay with the lack of a Blu-ray, I don't like the show nearly enough to spend $60 on a copy) but I'll check it out if Animelab upload the dubbed episodes to their site.

How do you even joke about that when you call an entire group of people "goddamn animals"? O_o

Anime-original endings are rarely any good, unfortunately. The manga is still ongoing, for those that liked the series enough to what to find out what "really happens".

This show is mediocre, it happen when you make an original anime from an ongoing manga. Well, i consider it just advertisement for the source material.

Second time this year that one of Rebecca's reviews has caused me to go and immediately buy the Funimation LE (last time was Nobunagun).

It's (intendedly) funny because the wording is so strong. It wouldn't be a joke if I said "I dislike it when FUNi does these annoying little DVD releases". It was meant as an overly melodramatic post. I have absolutely no dislike for anyone at FUNi and I love their work and the people there.
