GXP was one of the worst anime series I've ever had the displeasure of watching...so let's make more I guess!

Hiroshi Negishi's name is literally the only thing that provides me any semblance of hope of it being remotely decent--Universe is the only Tenchi that counts to me after watching Seasons 4 and 5 of Kajishima's OVA. Still, with Kajishima primarily running the show there is only so much Negishi can do.

I'm glad there wasn't a long wait for the new GXP anime to be licensed like there was for OVA4.

Lmao. I remember vaguely liking GXP, although it's been like 18 years since I collected the DVDs, so memory may be failing me a bit.

If this is continuing the recent pattern of the prior OVA installments making nods to supplemental material that never left Japan (in this case, the extended GXP novels), hard pass from me.

I only saw the first disc of GXP before stopping because it wasn't grabbing me, but it sure wasn't the worst thing in the Tenchi franchise. Unless something happens later, I appreciated what little world building it did for the universe outside of Tenchi's house.

Someone has to be buying these light novels to justify these weird spin-offs. I doubt Kajishima is funding this out of pocket. But let’s be honest, if AIC or Toei was running the show, we would have had a reboot years ago.

We need a new thing in the same vain as Universe or Ryo-Ohki 1. This current direction of 2000s to now is just lifeless. There's a weird amount of fetish appeal and fanservice that wasn't really present in the 90s Era.

The light novels sell very well with fans in Japan and it's primarily Tenchi that's keeping AIC afloat. AIC did Ai Tenchi a few years ago. I don't know how well that did in Japan but it was a flop for Funimation even after they tried to bring back as much of the classic dub cast as they could.

Oof. That was the full extent, huh? Ayeka's VA is pushing 80 or 90 so I don't blame them there, and Mihoshi has been replaced for a while, but I was shocked that they couldn't get Washu back.
