It’s really cool that they gave the franchise a new dub, but you’d think they would’ve saved money by just continuing Studiopolis’ dub. Most of that cast is still active.

What about ep 1 to 51? I hate starting an anime like that.

Doesn't Viz Media still have the rights to the first 50 or so episodes, though? I know they tried to put it out back in the day but for some reason stopped. Still, I'm not a fan of shows like this but I'm glad CR's making an effort to dub most, if not all, of the whole thing. And damn, I think this is the biggest, longest series Sound Cadence has ever been commissioned to dub, since PoT has...what? Over 100 something episodes?

That's MHA, not POT. Which was dubbed in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Not that the VZ dub was that better.

It's a cool list, also the director (Howard Wang) seemed really enthusiastic about this project so far.

Seems Viz still has the license since it's still up on Hulu, Amazon & Microsoft's store.

The show was dubbed at Salami Studios who hardly anyone hires anymore.

Been waiting for this dub for quite some time, but it's a shame the first 50 episodes are not on Crunchyroll. I wonder if they'll leave those like they are or redub them in the future.

It's cool that they're redubbing the series, although also kind of a shame that they can't do the first 50 episodes because of the Viz dub...although I have fond memories of that one.

It seems like Prince of Tennis has been a huge passion project for director Howard Wang ever since the OVA was first dubbed a while back. While its a shame about the first 50 eps being locked under a different licensor, I hope they are able to work on it sooner rather than later. Its pretty rare for a sports show this long (and relatively "old") to get a new dub at all, but I know dubs make starting long-running series that much easier, at least for me.

It still would be nice if Funimation can do redub MHA in Neutral Spanish in México with the first two movies cast, but I think it's too late and to be fair some of the acting has improved a bit, though it still is the weakest Spanish dub Funimation has made.
As for The Prince of Tennis, the Latin American dub for the OVA and Part II dub were made in Mexico as opposed to the original series which was dubbed in Venezuela, and the original is only available with subtitles. Kind of weird that Funimation hasn't made a redub in Spanish like they did with Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (which also was originally dubbed in Venezuela while the redub was done in Mexico, but at least they kept the Elric brothers original voice actors)

So to ask a question in the opposite direction, is the new dub of the original series really "only" going to go up to 80, or will more be added later? That part wasn't clear.

The original dub was up to episode 80, the Sound Cadence dub is going to be 51-128

I know they said that the original dub went up to episode 80 but is Crunchyroll still gonna try and redub 1-50 or only 51-128? I hope they redub 1-50 so I can start from the beginning with the new dub Very Happy

It looks like the usual Sound Cadence casting which doesn't do much for me. Its not exactly a good starting point for the show or dub either I'll pass better luck next time I suppose.

Was it? I thought the Viz dub was only up to 50, since that's all they had released. Wasn't aware they had dubbed beyond that.

So 81-128 will be added later, but they aren't going to dub 129-178? That's confusing and unfortunate.
