I have never heard of #5 or #4. Death Note volume 7 was very good though and I think deserves that spot. The suspense was great in that volume. I don't agree with the train-man manga being #1. Personally I didn't find it to be a very interesting concept for the story and similiar stuff has been done before. The art was unimpressive (character designs were sort of ugly to look at) and nothing in vol. 1 really stood out as excellent.

Funny how they couldn't even spell the title of their #1 manga right.
So what the heck is an "otoku" supposed to be, an otoko who's also an otaku? Seems redundant to me, since most otaku are male anyway. |

I've seen Beautiful People, it looked interesting to me, but I didn't pick it up. I recognize Death Note (you'd have to live in a rock not to recognize that by now) and Train Man, but not the other two.

IGN has hands down some of the worst manga reviews I've ever seen on the internet. In general their comics divison is more or less Wizard-lite, with ridiculous amounts of praise heaped on every shitty mainstream crossover "event" and whatever new Vertical book is popular amoung the Entertainment Weekly at the moment (though they have put out some solid articles in the part), but some of their manga reviews are just bizarre. When I still looked through them from time to time I remember reading one review that rubbished Nana yet another by the same author praising Girls Bravo. I know everyone has diffrent tastes, but come on...

Wow that many people never heard of Pilgrim Jager or Beautiful Life? Maybe it's time to put down the Naruto and Fruit Basket and read something else.

Berserk volume 13 was released in 2006.
It's not on that list. The list is thus invalid. |

Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden wasn't on the list? That manga is the best ever! Amazing art and story!
EDIT: Half of these manga titles I haven't even heard. Now, is it based on sales or did they choose the list? |

Hmm, finding Tsukihime on that list is interesting, especially with how slow it gets at times. I'm not too familiar with IGN, so I really can't compliment too much on the other stuff, but I have seen or heard of some of those titles.

Clearly they chose the list. If they didn't, we'd be seeing Naruto and Fruits Basket on there. But seriously, what a sucky list. Aoi House and Afterlife? I just can't help but . Death Note I can see being on there but...WOW...just wow. This list is proof that IGN needs to stick to rating games or whatever they do. |

Pigrim Jägar and Beautiful People seem interesting. I guess it's a good thing to focus on manga no one pays attention to because the manga that usually is overrated isn't necessarily the best.

If people never heard of them, what makes you think people will read them or buy them??
You do realize that IGN has given us two free Anime Episode "Downloads" recently, right? |

I wouldn't say that Naruto and Fruits Basket should be put in the same category as they are quite different and also it isn't a crime if people haven't heard of those titles. Especially when one lives in the black whole of manga (like I do) when one has to struggle to find something really good and there aren't many sources from where to get information about manga other than the internet (and I actually don't want to live my whole life on the internet) - therefore in this case people are allowed not to hear about certain manga. Taking into consideration how many issues are released every year I would say it's not mandatory for all the people to actually hear about all of them. (even the ones that actually made the top said that there is a possibility for people not to hear about them at all) Therefore I actually agree with Abarenbo Shogun: people can't buy them (and implicitly read them) if they haven't heard about them or haven't a clue about what's the story all about. I am familiar with some of the manga there such as Pilgrim Jager and even Real/fake Princess (here I actually have the first three volumes; an interesting love story which didn't impress me very much but I enjoyed reading it). There are interesting stories; whereas about Train Man, someone recommended it to me but I couldn't find it. As with Death Note and AOI House, I am most familiar. While I would agree with the first choice (the seventh volume of Death Note was a really interesting end to a story cause from there on the story falls apart), I wasn't impress with AOI House and it actually surprise me that it's on the third place. |

Er because even obscure title can be just as good or even better than most of the mainstream stuff if people give them a try? So you (anybody) never heard of the title before, why would that stop you from previewing or researching it? I go to the bookstore and see a lot of interesting title that i never heard before also, but when I find one that I really like, I will purchase it. Come on now, don't tell me you're one of those "I only buy and heard about certain manga because there was an anime/fansub for that series" type manga fan. Eh, its not even like these title are that obscure anyways.Beautiful People was review on this site ANN and various other manga related site. Same with Pilgram Jager, several comic site actually review it and it also a favorite over at mangacast. These title might not be top 10 manga of 06, but they are not bad at all. |

Uh no. I hardly ever go to that site. I'm mostly on ANN and if I'm not here, I'm on Deviantart or Wikipedia working on my user pages. And where did I mention downloads? I was talking about the manga list. What do downloads have to do with rating manga? I said that I thought the list sucked. I didn't say anything close to having to do with downloads. |
