Honestly, shallow characterization and rehashed storylines are basically Yoru Sumino's repertoire as a whole. Having read a bunch of her novels myself, all of them are pretty much interchangeable from not just her own work, but other, similar stories, and all of them don't make use of the potential their storylines have, and all of the characters in said stories are bland and never develop into anything meaningful.

This was my first thought as well upon hearing the synopsis, and while I was initially interested because I love that series I'm not on board with weak writing and characterization.
