Before anyone asks:
No, they're not airing the plot-important Made in Abyss movie. Yes, My Hero Academia is airing from season 5, since Adult Swim still has airing rights to that season. They haven't gotten season 6 yet, and it's unknown if they'll be able to. |

Also, they tried, but couldn't get the rights. https://twitter.com/Clarknova1/status/1585412099614072832 I'm guessing movies are on a different level, both in terms of how licensing for broadcast works and the cost to do so. |

I'm not sure why they're re-airing the 5th season of My Hero Academia since they can't air the 6th season yet. I do hope that they'll go back to airing two episodes of One Piece back-to-back sooner rather than later.

Even if Toonami had the option to air the Made in Abyss movie, do people really think it would have been able to air on Toonami without heavy censorship or something? Like there's a reason the arc the movie adapted was too much even for Japanese TV.

With Lupin III Part 6 done, I was wondering if anything I'd be at least marginally interested in would ever be on Toonami again. This was fast.

They can air Season 2? I mean when spoiler[Faputa shreds all those creatures to pieces or when Vueko gets hit by the curse and her body falls to pieces.] it's almost late 80s OVA territory.

Oh, I'm sure they can. Graphic violence is practically no longer a censorship issue on [as], outside of certain instances like that one episode of Superjail. |

With Monopolyroll taking their ball and going home I suspect Toonami's days are numbered unless they can get Sentai/AMC stuff on a regular basis but why do that when they can put them on one of their own cable channels like AMC. Viz mostly does manga now instead of anime and I doubt they want to air old stuff that Discotek has and I doubt they have a broadcast deal when they license stuff even if they did want to. Maybe they can reach a deal with Netflix because I've been seeing some of their stuff while channel surfing.
Wonder how they'll edit this down because some of content is just down right 80's OVA stuff like someone else said before me. |

I'm happy that we actually aren't waiting too long for Made in Abyss S2 to make its debut, and works out well that S1 just finished its re-run. Sucks that they couldn't get the rights to the movie, but thankfully both Hulu and HIDIVE have it for streaming, so my husband and I are planning on watching it before next Saturday so we're caught up and ready for the season.
Equally sucks that MHA isn't S6. I don't mind repeating S5, because MHA is still a good show regardless and I'll always appreciate it airing on the block, but it would be nice if we could watch S6 in similar style to how we had been doing for the past few seasons (starting a few weeks after the season began). But alas, with Sony's stranglehold on all of their licensed shows, I have such doubts we'll see it anytime soon. ... Definitely very fearful of what will happen come next year with Attack on Titan, as I think every season/part but S1 has been aired on Toonami at a simulcast level (for lack of better terms; the block aired the dub at the same time it was going up on streaming, which had been a week after the episode streamed subbed), and it would be a huge shame if the final part isn't allowed to be aired in the same fashion. Or at all, for that matter. |

I know it's not entirely the same since it's two different regions and cultures, but here in Germany -- where we have a history of being way more strict with censorship, banning of violent media and tend to have higher, more strictly enforced age ratings -- they simulcasted the show on free TV and free VOD, without any cuts or censorship, and gave it a 12+ rating. Season 1 and the movie had the same age rating btw. Very hard to believe that this happened in the same country that banned the most comparably harmless games for a decade or two and heavily censored others (games and anime) even after giving them 18+ ratings sometimes. Hecc, I STILL can't buy the original Dead Rising on Steam. As an adult. So yeah, I guess I'm not that shocked, after that, to see MiA show up on TV in the US uncensored as well. |

I guess I have implanted memories, since I thought Toonami already DID air the movie.

You’re probably thinking of that The Challengers hour long episode that Toonami aired twice. |

I realized what it was. I watched it for the second time on a stream by a dude who streams Toonami for those of us who cannot watch it normally. |

The show's not gonna make any sense without the movie. I hope they have some other plan, because this isn't enough to save Toonami. Also, how are they still able to air new One Piece but not new My Hero Academia? I thought they were both owned by Sony.

IIRC, from what I read/heard, Toonami got the rights for One Piece through Toei directly, essentially skipping the middleman Crunchyroll. Also, S6 for MHA is still ongoing in both audio formats (only the first few episodes for now). |
