Dammit Capcom, we wanted a new game, not an anime!

One can hope that the anime will lead to enough success that more people will check out the remastered Onimusha, leading to remasters of the rest of the Onimusha games, and then possibly a new game. The popularity of The Witcher show and the Cyberpunk anime have both led to a huge resurgence of sales for their respective games, so hopefully this will do well enough to do the same and convince Capcom to remaster the rest of the Onimusha games trapped on PS2.

Ugh, I recall Onimusha was one of the names listed in the 2020 Capcom leak but I didn't think it would be for an adaptation.
Really hope there's more to come because if not, it'll be a big disappointment.

While i am super interested in how Miike would work as an animation director, the fact that the first thing they announce is a character who's never been part of Onimusha, does worries me.

Quote: | The series will use the late prolific actor Toshirō Mifune (Rashomon, Seven Samurai) as a model for the character Miyamoto Musashi. |
Also, one of his most famous roles just happened to be Miyamoto Musashi in the trilogy adaptation Eiji Yoshikawa's "Musashi"

I think it's safe to say that it's going to be a sequel to the games, seeing how Musashi was active after Hideyoshi's rule.

The Capcom data breach revealed that the series itself is getting a AAA reboot so this anime once again confirms that the IP is about to come back soon. 2 is the best one btw.
Musashi lived in a peaceful period so he is more myth than man but these games have nothing to do with history and began life as an RE prequel. Let´s see what Takashi Miike can bring to the table.

Musashi was a playable fighter in Blade Warriors.

I'm curious how this will fair alongside the other CGI Netflix game adaptions.
Also curious how a film director headlining an anime will turn out.

We could do without Dawn of Dreams.

To be honest going for a new protagonist in a new story set later actually makes a lot of sense. You can say the game stuff was earlier in the timeline, establishing the lore with the Oni and stuff but also giving room to do something new. Onimusha was never really tied to one protagonist, so having a new one is nothing unusual.

Gotta love Takashi Miike. Ichi the Killer is in my list of favorite films. Love that wild ass movie. Him tackling Onimusha sounds pretty dope.
I'd like a new game in the series, or at the very least them also maybe remastering the sequels. Thought Onimusha 3: Demon Siege was the best tbh.

Huh, really didn't expect Miike for this kind of thing. OK, you got me, Capcom, Netflix, I'll watch this.
