Air Date & Platform:
April 10, 2020 (Friday)
Available on: Hulu

Episode Count / Runtime: 13 episodes
----------------------------------

Episode 1

The episode kind of had two parts, the first being evidence to what the majority of the show will be, with the majority of the episode being background with how our Japanese character have ended up where they are, one being quite tech savvy. I think it was the promise of what we will get that has my interest, a sort of very much in USA around the time of the wild west, an era relevant Wacky Racers. That sort of thing may be going into not always fair characterisation, there is what appears to a kid covered in I think Native American stuff, and the black guy having things like lips on his car. But that kind of feels totally okay if this is a proper call back to the personalities of those old cartoons.

I was personally kind of really interested in the shift away from Japan and into America in this time period, such as being clear that this era exist alongside each other but you rarely see it in anime.

[EDIT: Fancy opener stuff added. -TK]

This anime is certainly above average: between “Very good” and “Excellent“.

Main heroes have proper development arcs as the laws of drama prescribe (spoiler[e.g. the main lad has evolved from being a sociopath]), most of what is happening makes sense within the rules of the world the author has created. The character and vehicle designs are crazy art pieces.

The issues for me were: cartoonishly unbelievable the fights were, even though they were choreographed well, as well as naïveté in how things go, the main enemy is not quite believable.

A precaution for young female viewers: they should not build their worldview on this concrete example. A tiny lady can not through around huge opponents or compete in modern top performance racing, it is not possible due to the drastic difference in physiology and the nervous system. It is really bad when children get their dreams, influenced my media like this, ruined by biology.
