Well, as a fan of fairy tales and healing stories I will definitely check out the anime.

Having read plenty of stories involving abuse throughout my life, I've pretty much become desensitized to portrayals of it of any kind, so something like this is right up my alley. I did read the preview on Amazon Kindle, and I was put off by Kiyoka saying to Miyo "You must obey my every order. If I tell you to die, you die. I don't want to hear any complaints," but I'm wondering if further reading is required.

I think so - Kiyoka doesn't come off well at first, but he never actually abuses Miyo, unlike her garbage family - and he also figures out that she's been hurt relatively quickly.

That's Kiyoka being a jerk in hopes of driving her off ASAP, as the other women he's been engaged to tend to leave very rapidly and he figures he might as well get this one over with.

Hmm, if that's the case, maybe I will pick this up and read it and see if I like it.

I read this a while ago, didn't realize it had gotten a translation. I liked it a lot. The first volume was intended to be standalone until it sold gangbusters and they decided to make it into a series, but as a consequence it's very worth reading even if you only plan to read one.
Reading this book (especially with the emphasis on Miyo's awful treatment by her family) made me realize that Cinderella is really incredibly well-adjusted all things considered. She goes from a lifetime of emotional distress to being instantly confident and able to sweep the prince off his feet at the ball. The focus this book gives to Miyo's healing and, honestly, deprogramming, brings a very welcome perspective to the scenario.
For anyone giving this one second thoughts because of the abuse themes, I think you'll be satisfied with how it works out.

I might have to check this out just because I’ve always really wished there were more love interests like Kiyoka. I always end up really fond of characters like him and I can handle heavy subject matter.
