I wonder how much they'll change. From what I read the original novel got pretty dark.

Hathaway might not get executed in the 3rd film.

The first film was already different despite covering a similar plot.

That has nothing to do with the second film. Besides, I highly doubt they'd change that as it would quite literally diminish the meaning of the (ironic) title.
That being said, this article needs some major clarification as it's misinterpreting the event and what Ogata just said in an interview in the latest Gundam Ace. The flow of the film will be the same as in the novel, starting from Oenbelli and ending in Ayers Rock. Tomino had cautioned that a straight adaptation of the novel wouldn’t translate well as a movie, and the staff is aware of that. They’re going to create a story with "plus alpha" (adding material) and this second film is likely going to have the most new elements out of the entire trilogy. The response to the scenario that's been finished has been great, so if the first film is Hathaway’s story, then the second will be focused on Gigi. Director Murase said in the August issue of Gundam Ace that Lane will have a bigger presence, which is one of the "plus alpha" parts (he'll have his own part in the movie).

When discussing source material, especially big plot elements, for shows that are not out yet use spoiler tags please. That's why we have them. I added them this time.

I'm happy with more Gigi focus. She was really fascinating in the first movie (and extremely attractive).
I guess if they're going to make Lane Aim (that name still cracks me up) a more compelling rival for Hathaway, developing him more will help.
