I wouldn't say localizing one of the earliest games is lazy. Translation is pretty hard work in and of itself. Besides, many people have been clamoring for early Fire Emblem games to come out in the US for years, so this is good news...even if it's only going to be available for a limited time for some dumbass reason. I can't imagine that going over well.
I've been meaning to try out Fire Emblem for some time, so this might be a good incentive for me to do so.

It is when the game in question was remade for the Nintendo DS years ago.

If this is your first fire emblem game you could stand to do a bit better.

This is the very first game in the series. Finally bringing the original is pretty neat, and I don’t what is lazy about it.
Shhhhh, let people enjoy things.

It's crazy how Nintendo doesn't get the flake and criticism it deserves for being such an anti-consumer company. Creating artificial scarcity for physical releases is one thing, but for digital releases? Disgusting

I'm just happy they are finally bringing the original version to the states after all these years.hopefully this only leads to more being brought over.

I LOST MY MIND when I saw the trailer. I've loved Fire Emblem since 7 became the first one available in the states, and I've always wondered about the games we never got. I do agree that only having it available for a limited time digitally is, at best, a bad look (hopefully they'll reverse the decision), but considering that Awakening on the 3DS was originally supposed to be the last game for the series, it is mind blowing to me as a fan that that series has gained so much popularity that we're now getting the first game in the states. I'm hopeful that this means we could see official releases for the other games we never got, too. (I'm especially keeping my fingers crossed for 6, since 7 was a prequel of it.)
And if you'd rather play a remaster of the older games...well, hey, Shadow Dragon is available, although I don't know how easy it is to get a copy nowadays. And Echoes is a remake of 2, although again, I don't know if it got as much of a print run as Fates and Three Houses. That stuff is available. But for a hardcore fan, it's still neat to see the origin of the series, you know? (Yeah, I could emulate it, but I also really prefer playing on my Switch.)

That's pretty stupid to have something up for a limited time especially if its the digital release. I might buy it before March as long as its not a $60 game. I hope its only $20 digitally lol

Wow, way to sound elitist. Recommendations are helpful, but try not to come across as a jerk about it.

I'm not against finally releasing a classic in English, although I would've liked a modern remake using the new official VA's for the characters in the game.

Wasn't the Fire Emblem OVA released by ADV Films back in the day the west's first exposure to the series?

They could've either localized Genealogy of The Holy War, Binding Blade, or better yet remade them instead. Hell they should've localized New Mystery Of The Fire Emblem which America & Europe never got for some reason instead they're localizing the original NES version of a game they remade all the way back in 2008. What's not to understand?
Unless you're an extreme lover for nostalgia there's not going to be much enjoyment to be found in playing a 30 year old game that was released on the NES.

You're reading way too much into what I said. Try to imagine if you will never having played the Super Mario Bros. games and to start off you play the original game as opposed to 3 or Super Mario World where they overhauled a number of aspects and made the games all around better.
That'd come off as a janky experience wouldn't it?

I played super Mario world before I ever got to play SMB back in the day and never really felt either were bad. Both had their ups and downs and were fun to play.

I see Nintendo has definitely learned some things from its mobile game forays. By only providing the base digital game for a limited time, they're creating that "fear of missing out" by removing the possibility to buy it later down the road.
I'm thankful that the publishers/developers of the games that I like would never get away with that garbage since the fans would outright revolt.
