The artwork caught my attention. Shame it's not very good (according to this review, at least). I have a harder time getting into LNs then anime/manga to begin with.

Since my first thought on seeing the cover illustration was: "I feel like I've been in that store", Rebecca, you've managed to make this book sound more interesting by describing it as

...a love letter and a tourist guide to Kyoto (with a focus on everyday sights) with some very mild mystery elements...... It's better to frame this as a novel about Kyoto that happens to have a few mystery subplots that pop up across its chapters.


Having traveled once to Kyoto, and wanting to go back, this makes it sound pretty good (now all I need is for Tomihiko Morimi's The Eccentric Family to be translated --- wandering around Kyoto I kept stumbling on sites depicted in the anime).

Oh man, I quite enjoyed the anime so I’m happy to hear the light novels have been licensed! I’ll definitely be picking this series up.

I think you're misunderstanding something; it says N/A because the only illustration is the cover picture, as it's basically a regular novel in Japan.

Correct, except the author mentions illustrations in her afterword - has anyone seen the original Japanese edition who can clarify?

Are you sure they weren't just talking about the cover and character illustration info page included in the beginning of the volume? You can check the first 30 pages of the JP version on Bookwalker here and it looks basically the same as the English version, just the cover and character black and white info page.

There wasn't really any context beyond "illustrations," so I'm willing to buy that explanation, especially since the two editions do look identical.

Hello, as for the illustrations, generally it means only cover, as this series belong to the Light Bungei literary type (a type of character-centered novel, which features anime-like cover).

However, the first volume (only) was also republished under Futabasha Junior Bunko with insert illustrations and ruby (kanji reading). This info can be found on JP Wikipedia.

Thank you, non8noninfinite! That's very helpful to know. It's a bit of a shame that this isn't from the Junior Bunko edition, but if there's only the first volume reprinted in that line, I can see why we got the Light Bungei for the English edition.

I enjoyed the anime and had no idea the Light Novel had been licensed! I'll for sure check this out.
