Awesome news! Not unexpected, but still! At this rate, would not be surprised at all if NIS America announces a fall release for the English-language versions. Also would not be surprised at all if they use Anime Expo for another marketing push, the same way that they did last year with Trails of Cold Steel III!

Ouch. That kind of sucks for the people working on the improved the Geofront fan-translation.
And may actually make me get a console for the first time in over two decades...

Unfortunately that's way too optimistic. It'll take at least a year or two in a best-case scenario considering how much time it takes to translate the Trails games.

Nah. There still working on it and going through beta testing of the finished translation of it right now I think, so I wouldn't say the news had stopped them or hurt in any way.
It'll probably be two years before we get it here, the legal version.

I have the feeling the Geofront will be the superior translation, and updated visuals. They have been working on it a long time and looks incredible with what they where able to do. Though now I hear there adding content to the official release. Like Juna, G and Towa.

Cold Steel 4 is going to take priority over these games, unless NISA gets two teams working on Zero and CS4 it's going to be awhile

Oh, I wouldn't expect them to stop, certainly -- they're very close to done, from the sounds of it, so it'd seem kind of silly to give up now.
But, putting myself in their shoes: had I labored for years on the coding, translation, and asset-creation needed to fan-port Zero the way they're doing, I'd be pretty dispirited to be just about done only to *finally* start getting clear indications that Falcolm's actually going to revive Zero and Ao in a way that'll almost certainly culminate in an English localization in a year or two.
EDIT: Separately, I also kind of worry whether Falcolm will take a more active legal/financial interest in the Geofront project, now that gray-market downloads of fan-lations will become a more direct competitor to products they're actually actively supporting again.
