Other notable movies, Ladyhawke, Flesh & Blood, and The Hitcher. The Hitcher is one of my favorite movies, Ladyhawke too.
Flesh & Blood and The Hitcher came out a year apart of each other, and also starred Jennifer Jason Leigh in both. Rutger Hauer did some bad things to her in both movies. As actors, I am sure they had some fun talks about that. |

He even passed away in the same year Blade Runner took place in. Thank you, Mr. Hauer, for your wonderful work. May you RIP, and my condolences to your family and friends.

Let's also not forget that he was the chief villain in the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie and the protagonist in Blind Fury, an underrated movie about a blind Vietnam War vet using a katana on bad guys.
But yeah, Roy Batty in Blade Runner is arguably his most memorable role. Supposedly Philip K. Dick himself proclaimed Hauer to be the "perfect Batty" and Hauer considered the role and movie to be personal favorites. His final monologue in the film - which Hauer reportedly rewrote himself - has always stuck with me and is widely-regarded as the greatest speech in a sci fi film. |

It almost sounds like a curse. Maybe spoiler[ it is a good thing that the role doesn't seem to have more appearances in the foreseeable future.] It was an honor to have him play such a vital role. |

I don't remember Jennifer Jason Leigh in Ladyhawke. I remember Michelle Pfeifer. But she was quite unforgettable in Flesh & Bone. I'd like to do an edit of that tub scene, add in audio, low level and slightly echo-ish, as if it were coming from the next room, "Somebody's Baby" by Jackson Browne. 
I was informed by a friend, take that for what it's worth but I always cite my sources no matter how dodgy, that Hauer turned down a role in The Messenger, the bloated Joan of Arc epic starring Mila Jovovic, one the stated grounds that he was tired of doing Medieval movies and the filming was in northern France in the autumn when it always rains. I suppose that was his way of saying that if he wanted to spend his autumns making movies in the cold rain he would never have left The Netherlands in the first place. Split Second was another really good one. Set in a London partially affected by rising sea levels (amazing for a movie from 1992) Hauer played a cop out to get the serial killer who killed his partner, only to learn that the killer might not be human. The film has it's flaws but delivers on action, suspense, and chocolate doughnuts. |

Turkish Delight and Soldier of Orange (that one sounds better in native language) were upposedly some of the best Dutch films ever made. His death was front page new here.

It's sad to hear of Rutger Hauer's passing. "Ladyhawke" is one of my mother's favorite movies. I just talked with her and she's kinda sad about it,too. I admit I haven't seen a whole lot of his stuff but it's sad to see the guy go regardless. RIP Rutger Hauer. My mom and others will miss you a lot.
