A five year-old series? I thought anime licensing companies were shamelessly recentalist these days.

Well, it's good that shows don't get forgotten just because they're a few years old.

Hmm. It's nice to see older anime getting a chance too, but unfortunately, I found Ray not so great.
If they're looking for lesser known, short anime, why not go for Ryoko's Case Files, or Binbou Shimai Monogatari? Those were both better than Ray.

Guessing it was an extremely cheap title and not part of some deal, they wouldn't put something this old and unpopular on the table.

But hey, if they can grab a bunch of cheap titles and not really loose a whole lot of money by doing cheap releases, more power to them. No reason to dub these things.

Sentai Filmworks has been doing this for a few years already (Uta~Kata from 2004 and Ghost Sweeper Mikami from the 90s, for example), so it's only natural that a fellow Section23 label is doing the same.

As for me, I'll be definitely buying Ray as I enjoyed what I read of the manga before ADV canceled further releases. I am really hoping that one of Section23's labels picks up the two Eat-Man animes one day; having all of the anime adaptations of Akihito Yoshitomi's works under one banner over here would be really cool to see, regardless of how much of a bad business choice Justin feels it would be... Though I'm sure he would buy them in the end anyway.

Took the words right outta my mouth, mate.

A few years ago I picked up what little of the Ray manga that was released stateside and, while it wasn't to my taste at the time, I still found it interesting.

I'd love to see more anime get licensed regardless of how "old" it may be. Just choose by the quality of the story and (as long as the production values aren't rock bottom cheap).

RAY at least has the advantage of being 16:9, so it won't look too old on newer displays. I do have to wonder if we're ever going to see any more non-rescue 4:3 licenses though, even in "ultra-budget sub-only collection" formats.

At AX David Williams said that Sentai will probably still license older animes, as in titles from the 90s and such, every now and then, so I doubt that 4:3 anime licenses are dead. Having black bars on the sides of the video really aren't that bad...

Plus, some of my most-wanted anime licenses are 4:3 anime from the first half of the 2000s, so I sure as hell still want to see 4:3 anime getting licensed.

Some more Black Jack would have been better for me. This was a alright series but nothing great.

What exactly is Maiden Japan? Is it a new licensing company? I looked on MAL and they only licensed a handful of titles from 2008 and earlier and from the looks of it they were all scored below 7. Although I did watch the first episode of Ray on CR back in their illegal days and found it interesting, but I don't know if I will buy it or not seeing as how its subbed only. If I do decide to buy it the series will be low on my to buy list since it won't or will not profit from a dub.

I kinda hope we get more classics released on DVD. Kinda sucks we will never get any Macross over here cause of Harmony Gold Evil or Very Mad
