I have a group of friends into anime. They seem to perfer either mainstream titles (bleach, naruto,FMA) and action series with bloodiness (gantz, elfen lied, tenjo tenge) and all of that well and good. i like them too and its not like my friends are narutards or annoying fangirls/boys. but i want them to look beyond their usual genre and get out there. theres lots of thing i used to be closed minded too until i got into anime i learned new genres of everything else in media as well.
i just need a way to convince my friend to try new things and other anime beyond the norm. i did try before with comedy and stuff with no avail...sigh. |

Try and be creative really, but keep in mind what their tastes are like. They must discriminate somewhere along the popular series (Likes inuyasha but hates Naruto) otherwise they just go with the crowd. Then again, it's entriely possible that they're super open to all anime and they like all the popular stuff. In that case, just show them some of the small time hitters and they'll fall in love with it easily.

I've just given up. A couple of friends watch some stuff but as I've slowly learned, most people like what they've found on their own the most. Probably why I like older smaller mmo's more than I have of any new bigger and superior one. Sure, WoW might be huge and fun, but I only tried it cause of friends. My older original games mean more to me, and I approach anime in much the same way; especially when talking about slightly closed minded people in the first place.
So basically after all that negativity is my advice, don't push. You might get a bad response for no reason other than you pressuring them too much. Having their input and say is what you want, maybe getting them to suggest an anime to watch/get after looking into it just a tiny bit. In the end, not everyone's gonna get into it, so choose your battles. |
