Why are they trying to turn Godzilla into a Gamera like guy, who get's along with children? (sigh)

You would rather go the full Gamera, and have a young boy in yellow hat and backpack (or Boy Scout outfit)?? Go straight to the remake of "Godzilla's Revenge"? Besides, it's Legendary Pictures, you know the Hollywood mega-blockbuster rule: EVERY lead-action hero has to have a cute trophy-daughter to protect, soften his image and Play Adult for. |

Not that I'm particularly excited by this direction, but it isn't exactly unprecedented for Godzilla films to use a child as a viewpoint character for the film. Many of the Showa era godzillas had children as main characters, with the big guy sometimes interacting with them directly, and sometimes his son teaming up with the kid (even talking with them). I'm not sure whether Godzilla was copying Gamera or vice versa, but the Japanese movies indulged in it regularly since almost the beginning of the character.
I'm willing to give the movie the benefit of the doubt, for now. The first movie was alright, not great, but I really am a sucker for a big monster brawl so I'm hoping this one improves on it. |
