Damn that's really a shame.
Quote: | Murata explained that the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web site's editors did all they could, but they could not resolve the rights issues for several elements that would have appeared in the manga. |
DeLorean? Calvin Klein? Johnny B. Goode?

Aw, it would have been fun!
I'm also wondering which elements of the movie posed the biggest rights issue. Perhaps the movie itself has layers of copywrite protections? Or the likenesses of the actors?

That's too bad, I think Murata's art fits well withthe hollywood movies, if he can't do Back to the Future, I would love him adapting other hollywood entertainment classics.

Boo! (hoo)
Maybe the rights issue was with DeLorean, and the monster truck concept was his proposal for a way of bypassing it?

If it was an issue with brand names, they should've done the usual manga thing and made the car a Ladorian and have Marty wear Kevin Klean underwear.

Yeah, likely the DeLorean, that's the one thing that they couldn't really change without feeling right about it if they couldn't get the rights for it.

Not how much issues were released but i do hope that they get a license in the near feature. Back to the Future remains one of my all time favorite movie trilogy. And i think that art looks nice for a semi-remake to BTTF, which i always imagined being remade as an anime so this is probably the closest we could get

It probably was. I've worked at both a toy store and a comic book store that sells a lot of collectables, and a lot of the recent Back To The Future merch that has come in has said 'time machine' on it, not DeLorean.
I know nothing about cars, so this is pure uneducated speculation, but maybe they might have yanked the license because they're planning on bringing the DeLorean back? Ironically, it'd be because of the movie and its association with it, which is why yanking the license doesn't make sense to me.

That's a bummer. I wasn't aware of this adaptation but looking at the unfinished material it would've been a ton of fun.
