I think the columnists summed up my feelings about the show pretty well. I have no idea how it manages to all work so spectacularly, but it does. I didn't really have any interest in the series going into this season, but I am so incredibly glad I gave it a chance. It's an absolute gem of both comedy and feels.

I think Hinamatsuri's worth watching for just about everyone. Hilarious and touching.

as manga fan, yes, watch it.
This was a really long-winded post though. It was teh best comedy of the season because basically every other comedy of the season wasn't very good. Hinamatsuri was an extremely well-done adaptation of the manga, though, and even though I knew most of the jokes already, the execution from the staff and cast involved still managed to make me laugh out loud. I pretty much never actually "lol" from anything, so this is a great accomplishment in my book. And as was noted, they did the drama very well. Great timing and execution to make it all really work without feeling too forced...and even when it made you feel for the characters, the drama also still managed to be funny at the same time in a respectful way. Best comedy in a long time. |

@Kougeru I agree with you that the execution was top notch, it was a clear example of a studio knowing very well the source and polishing it in the adaption, there is nothing half-baked or fillerish.

The first episode of Hinamatsuri was very good with a unique sense of humor and good comedic timing. It was a nice surprise that in future episodes the show turns out to be both a good comedy and a good drama. The show deals with serious issues that I have not seen dealt with in any other anime comedy. Than again since it is a seinien manga it does make sense that it would cover issues that would usually not be seen in a shonen manga. It was also surprising how many of the characters that were shown in the end credits are important to the story.

I agree on calling this the comedy of the season. I can't see anyone else coming close as this was done masterfully. The combat animations was even flawless in a comedy show, how often do you see that?

It was definitely too good for them to leave us hanging like that. Season 2 or we riot.

Joke's on you guys, that's the ACTUAL plot. Seriously. That Rocksion guy is the most important plot-related character in the show. |
