Did they ever work out the copyright issues involving all the games that show up in the manga?

Yes. Since the key visual includes licensed games looks like the anime won't have issues with it either.
EDIT: Guess I should actually watch the trailer before posting. The CG does look pretty weird, especially with the classic 2D games smack in the middle of it.
Good thing the story's strong enough that it's not that important (let's face it, the manga never looked great either).

Good to hear that it got past those legal issues and it is finally getting made. Romantic comedy anime based on 90's fighting games are in short supply.

Took long enough for this to be actually announced after that one legal dispute.

Well, Oshikiri art has its own charm, most likely because horror mangaka making something lovable and cute. But I don't think that CG is so ruining the image there.
And heck, they seriously bring Yoko Shimomura, the one heck of legendary video game composer, for this series? Nuts.

Well, despite the legal hurdles it came through for a long time, and despite even being CG as some people are dismissive on it. I'll still watch it regardless, having been a reader of Hi-Score Girl in the past, and mostly retro stuff as well.

What CG animation? Based on that trailer, all I'm really seeing is game graphics mixed with 2D anime art, which is what this show should really be presenting.
