...and these people never showed up during the battle in the first movie? Think of all the lives that could've been saved!

Two Mothra eggs and Mecha Godzilla? That smells like Tokyo S.O.S. The fact that this Mecha Godzilla is a human Anti-Godzilla weapon always made it feel like Kiryuu but now I wonder how much they'll take from that particular movie.

In terms of some...holesome issues, I agree. This development did not occur simply because it was necessary to move the first movie's plot in a specific direction. In this particular case, and while it is not completely illogical to give the movie some suspense, I can squint while I wait for an eventual pay-off. Maybe I missed something in translation, or maybe we both did. My biggest gripe, however, was just at the start of the epic battle: The 'retreat to the moon' comment after they attempted to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere really floored me. Did anyone else think of this before we took off on a there and back again 20,000 year space odyssey? Could we have built a base there in the first place?? Please tell me they put it to a committee vote? No? Yikes either way.

I had the same issue but I was more focused on Why didn't they terraform Mars?

I wouldn't want to see killer cockroaches the size of Godzilla in this film. That'd make things even worse.
