YES feels good to finally have a date to this. All we need now is an episode listing.

So this is not a reboot but a continuation? Is that correct?

Fridays are going to be quite the treat. I’m hoping that Funimation/Crunchyroll can get it.

Yes, it’s been confirmed to be a sequel, not a reboot.

For the love of god please finish the story. I highly doubt we'll be lucky enough for another season.

Finally. hopefully it has atleast 24 episodes so it can wrap everything up so we don't have to wait another 13 years for a sequel.

I hope they finish it too although I've been spoiled to some things thanks to Super Robot Wars V.

Seeing what played out in SRW V scenarios finally animated will break my damn heart. xD

[continues to pray to every god that this isn't going to Netflix]

(For dubbing consistency, I mean. No need to entitlement-shame me.)

Really, it needs to be picked up by either Sentai or Funimation to stand any chance of having the same cast, and given that some of the voice actors involved don't normally work for Funimation, it might have to be Sentai (especially if it gets picked up for simulcast). So, in that regard, it's probably in our best interest that Sentai gets it, but we'll have to wait and see.

Unfortunately though, regardless of who picks it up or how willing they are to do their best to get the original cast back, it's been so long that some of the actors probably won't be available (especially for more minor roles), and at least one of the major actors passed away. Hopefully whoever gets it at least manages to bring back all of the major actors who aren't deceased. It helps that most of the major ones are still fairly active, but still, after so many years, we'll probably get some disappointments in the casting. Sad

Mike Kleinhenz passed away in 08. He played Kalinin. There was also several VAs who particpated in the dub who basically went MIA after the fact (in anime VA anyway.)

.....should I feel bad that the only characters I remember are the co-stars, Gauron, Tessa, two classmates, and the blond playboy guy?

Given that it's been something like 12 or 13 years since we've gotten any new FMP anime, I expect that there are plenty of folks who remember that they loved FMP but have forgotten most of the details. A lot of folks are going to be rewatching the previous seasons in preparation for this one.
