I like this franchise, but seeing it play up its characters as cute maids as if it was an idol anime or something really makes the "dark" writing harder to accept as genuine.

That kind of feeling when we don't even get to bite off a certain blonde-haired girl's head as well.

Who would in right mind would be thinking that a soul stealing magical creature was a good idea? Whoever created Kyubey and personality that person hates the magical girl genre that goes for the entry staff of Shaft they have no respect to the magical girl genre. Madoka Magica is a disasterpiece.

Say what you like about it, but Madoka Magica is a loving homage to the genre as a whole. I don't know what you think makes it disrespectful, but the creators put plenty of conscious effort into allowing the ideas of the genre to be explored with few boundaries. And let's not forget all of the visual references to other classic Magical Girl anime, like Sailor Moon, Creamy Mami, Cardcaptor Sakura, and the director's own previous magical girl work, Lyrical Nanoha (yes, same guy).
As for the writer of the story and characters, Madoka Magica was par for the course in his repetoire. If making feel-bad stories within a genre turns you off, then don't check out his other "dark" works, like Fate/Zero, Saya no Uta, Phantom of Inferno, Kikokugai, Kamen Rider Gaim, and the new Godzilla anime films. Prooooobably not your taste.
But hey, you like Rockman Dash. At least we have something in common. *points to username*
